Help on selling Corvette
« on: December 10, 2014, 08:02:42 PM »
Hello all, sorry to be a pain, I know little about cars, especially Corvettes. Anyhow my father in-law due to poor health wants us to help him downsize/declutter his shed (he doesn't have much choice in this matter). Sitting in the corner is a White Corvette that needs to go (he shouldn't even be allowed to drive a normal car). All I know about the car at this stage  (need to sneak back for another look) is that it is a White 1986 Daytona corvette convertible (right hand drive). My question is, what else do I need to find out about this car to be able to sell it and what is a rough price guide? The car gets a quick sprint around the streets every few months so I know it goes well.
Thank you for reading this and any help will be very appreciated.
Simon

Asking prices for C4s vary greatly. Take a look on carsales.com.au for an idea of what people in Oz are asking at the moment for C4s generally and how they are describing them. (Use advanced search to filter the range of years).
It's C3 chromie for me, see? Si!

Being an 86, it's now almost in the zone where anyone can import one from the states and register it LHD, so there are a few early C4 vettes being imported at the moment.  Some people like LHD as it's the way the car was made, but many like RHD too as it makes it easier to drive.

The big thing will be the quality of the RHD conversion.  Was the steering box and brake master moved to the right hand side, or are there bars and chains under the dash connecting the right hand side pedals and steering wheel to the left hand side brakes and steering box?

If you put a price on it and it gone the next day, your were to low
If you stile have it in three years,  your to high

C4 have the wides range of asking prices at the moment

Never could find it on carsales for that year, did find out some more information, was very painful to get out of the father inlaw, (dementia and he is so annoying), done 24,000 genuine miles, was imported as a right hand drive and he  doesn't believe there is chains/bars linking under the dash. I was wrong, it has Indianapolis badges not Daytona.

I would question that.

Take a look under the bonnet for a conversion compliance plate of one sort or another giving the converter's name.

Even better, post a few pictures of the engine bay & firewall, including exterior and interior of the car.

Yes some  pics would be good. Location now is in Nowra -Yes!?.. Is it all original except for conversion of course. I bought my 87 for $22250. Maybe because conversions done years ago were not state of the art, they don't bring big money, people prefer for the C3's shape - 'Would be Batmen".

Rosco tried gumtree and saw a white 87 for under $20K with Heritage or club plates on it + LHD. Looked OK as a car, but now I'm totally  confused about club plates - maybe other states have different rules - maybe a lesson will be forthcoming from one of our Big Wigs about these plates.

Car is down in Batemans Bay NSW but we live Nowra, father in law is a difficult man (always has been, but worse now), if we say sell in for 15,000 he would say oh no its worth 40k wheres the rest of my money? But if we can show that on corvette nsw forum experts in corvettes say is worth 10-15k etc we can tell him to pull his head in. Why we are doing this research first. Should have pictures by end of next week.
Thank you

Yes been there did that - now he's gone, but he never had a good word ever. Anyway just surfing found they can vary from mid thirties to as low as $12K. The cheaper ones can be in SA/WA and could be LHD, also the conversion could be mirror or chain and bar (looks mirror but under bonnet is original layout). It would have to be immaculate with new rubbers/seals to get close to thirty. C4's don't bring C3 money.

Lets see the pics and keep me informed - I'm interested in a roadster - but after two vettes I'm  probably going to be extra picky - or maybe I should buy that house after all.............

Yes 30 in NSW - this would probably explain why we have 65 different rail gauges.

( I digress )

fancy that, the rail system not standard gauge through out australia.

No surely the governments have sorted that by now.
best tell Tony Abbott he can increase the road tax's to pay for sorting that.

Tony has only taken a short time to F the economy.
Oh and blame every one other that his side of of the shirt front.
He can fix the rail system by _ _  _ _ _
Oh sell it (yes it does loose money ) next idea , blame labour
