question RARE car
« on: May 20, 2014, 01:00:12 PM »
Here a question  some one may be able  to answer
What  constitutes  a rear car
A good number of corvette advertised are

 RARE cars

Is that car a one of hand built car
Or one of  a 1000000 production run
Or say one of a 30000. Productions run.
Its interesting to see so many RARE cars of similar years  etc
Advertised constantly all RARE examples of a production car interesting !

May be these cars are RARE, because the car the seller has,
  is a one of car.
Ie one of the one of, they have to sell

Hello Bfit,

I think this question has been raised before.

Rare.. well, if its a low volume and numbered car, you may consider it rare.. say only 300 made of 25,000 is rare.  Or something like the L88 Corvette is a Rare Car.

Rare could also mean priceless because they just don't exist anymore, or not many examples survive.  Its a matter of opinion.

Its like this... when someone the other day said to me, why did a buy a C4 Corvette, when theyre common as dogs kahoonas , when you could have bought my corvette, which there is only 5 in the world.  And my first reaction was that I would have just the same amount of fun, for half the price! and:

When you put your car up against any other red corvette (I wont mention the year), to the average person, and not an enthusiast, its all the same, so why would I pay what your asking for it!!

So to cap of the rare question, does it really matter?.. it may give you bragging rights, but in the scheme of enthusiasm, it doesn't bl__dy matter

LOL

good points
how ever, that reasoning does not account for so many RARE corvettes up for sale.

Whilst some mau be of genuine reasons, the truth from what i have found is that a financial crisis is about to strike. Don't believe what the news or the media portrays, do your own research. Its not all rosy at it may seem.

The most common "over use" of the term "rare" is used when a car is "estimated" to be 1 of 20 (for example)
Usually, its just because it happens to be optioned a particular way.

A dictionary definition of rare: "not often seen or found, and therefore admired or valued very much".

But advertisers don't care about the true meanings of words -- they use them as they wish. Hence caveat emptor!
It's C3 chromie for me, see? Si!

There are a lot of exceptions to that definition, pick any of these

now that is a logical point

The L88 of which a few were manufactured
and I read recently that there are more that twice that many claimed L88 in the US alone  never mind the ones  else where in the world.
there were  some 200 69 model L88 vehicle
are they rare a number would have been scraped in the early days so is the 100 real one around
if  yes then they are not rare.

Yes, there are more L88s and L89s and L71s officially certified by NCRS than were ever produced.
But only 2 of these were ever built.

That's "RARE"

And you don't see or even here of these very often.

Mmm I see where your going

How ever what mates a low optioned production vehicles  rare
Unpopular optioned vehicles at  the time of production  does not amount to rare
They are production bodies vehicles With optionsnotvaken up by the general population

Is that enought to make then worth more that any other vette of that same vintage

In the before mentioned examples, if auction results are anything to go by, then I would say yes.

Put it this way
No one would pay more for a base engine, green car, with a red interior and luggage rack, just because its rare.
Rarity means nothing, if the options are not desirable.

Auction results
Tend to be a result based on who thinks they have the bigger appendage .
Other wise why would a normal thinking person spend the sort of money that could house a family  or three
To buy a car to hide in there storage facility.

Is that criteria for what makes a rare car
A vehicle that is in storage

Some are genuine car guys (with very deep pockets) and some are just investors.
Those types of cars are pretty good investments, they defy the economy and keep going up in value.

Same goes for old European stuff, just more insane prices.

As always, "worth" depends on the viewpoint of the potential buyer.

When reading an ad for any sort of product, it helps to delete all the subjective adjectives from the seller's description and concentrate on what's left.
It's C3 chromie for me, see? Si!

I see 'rare' on too many car ads.  It's marketing speak like 'new and improved'.  I'd classify an immaculate base model AU falcon as rare, but it still doesn't mean it would be worth much.

gtc,. . very well said. .

may be the good analogy
such as a low year production vehicle
1970 base car with 3 speed manual optioned trans base level motor
rare as rocking horse sh_t and worth ?
probably less manufactured supplied than the L88  in 1970
Rare as
Rust Free !

Ah, this old chestnut.

In the end it's worth what people are prepared to pay for it.  In the Mustang world I've seen a few 1 of 1 cars with Marti reports, one recently was the only one that came out of the factory ordered with a radio.

Would you pay much more for this option or way more than the same car in better condition without a factory radio?

Unlikely.
