Registering newly imported C3 - Engineer's certificates and Blue slips

Hi All,

I am new to the club and the forum. I have recently purchased a 1973 Corvette 454. It was imported by GM Downunder in Queensland and it has had everything done to make it roadworthy for NSW, including new seat belts, lights, etc. I expect to take delivery in the next few weeks.

I have found out that to get it registered I will need to get a blue slip. If anyone knows of a good place to get a blue slip could you please send me a message. I live in the Sutherland Shire. If anyone can confirm that I will definitely need an Engineer's certificate this would also assist me. From what I have read the cost can vary a bit from one certifier to another. Again if anyone knows a good certifier please send let me know.

Any comments as to other members recent experiences would be welcome.

From what I can work out by the VIN sequence number the car was manufactured in December 1972.

Any paperwork you fill out quote it as a 72
And a December manufacture date

He does blue slips and owns two C3s himself.

I am going on what I have been told and some info on the rms website. If I am misinformed and only a pink slip is needed I would be more than happy to try to proceed that way.

to get a car on full registration IN NSW you need blue slip
the only time you don't need a blue slip is if the car has been registered in NSW and that registration has lapsed less than 3 month.
some Queensland vehicle suppliers will organize a the blue slip through their contact IN NSW on your behalf
give that contact a ring that is listed earlier in the thread
Mate another thing you will need to be able to read the chassis number on the chassis
its in the LH rear wheel well just above no 4 body mount

Oops, I was thinking engineer's cert.

Yes, you definitely need a blue slip. An engineer's cert is only required if the car has had mod's and that can be subject to opinion.

If it's reasonably stock, you can take it to Chris Sinclair at SMS Performance in Padstow for a blue slip.

If you want to run it on club plates you only need a pink slip, the rego is cheaper too but you're limited as to when & where you want to drive it.

The road authority keep moving the goal posts
So I am not 100% sure on this
I believe to get a pink slip you need to have a currently registered Vehicle

From my last experience, just over a year ago, I was having issues getting a blue slip without an engineer's certificate from a particular mechanic. The mechanic said however, he'd give me a pink slip no problems.

Now whether I could use that to get club rego ... I don't know but the mechanic seemed to think it was one way I could get to drive around legally before going for a blue slip at a later date.
