Post by: Camo on August 06, 2013, 10:11:34 PM
Split from Jethro's engine thread http://nswcorvettes.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,9199.msg1045946613.html#new (http://nswcorvettes.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,9199.msg1045946613.html#new)

................ I guess the Judgement date will be when I get Priscilla lined on up  a 1/4 mile

You wish.  I guess you haven't heard.  My new bench mark will be the Dodge.  Presently building a try power (or a six pack as we call them in the Mopar fraternity) weapon for it. Indy allow heads, Mopar block and 540 cubes of cam lumping, revving grunt. Target minimum is 600hp at the flywheel.  Already got the Gearvendors overdrive and molly tail shaft and yokes fitted ready to take the new heart.

I didn't think you would be that keen to be seen in the revision mirror at the drags

Cam you can mount the camera on the front of the jethro machine  to video the performance car in the others lane
ffs lads it's not only HP  that wins the day

Who, me?  Naaa.

It's not a Hemi.  Magnum big block 440 bored and stroked.  Hence the new Mopar block as they are already cast to allow for stroking

Anyhow I'm hi-jacking Jethro's thread here.

Get the thing done and in Jethro.  Forgot what the beast looks like, as I only have a memory of it in Priscilla rear view mirror. Sorry, couldn't help myself  :bolt:

LOL   The thing is not even built yet.  Heading over there tomorrow, Thursday, to check out the progress and take some snaps of the bits and pieces.

Don't worry, I'll be posting a video when we do the engine Dyno run  :evilone:

Had all the machining done in the states by some drag racing engine builder buddies of my friend and engine builder John Kuiper.  I'll post some pics of the block once it's in the clean room and unwrapped.

Not many specialty Mopar guys here so got everything sourced by Johns mates for me and had it shipped over by US Muscle Cars (http://usmusclecars.com.au/), (Mick & Yvette).  It all turned up in a big wooden crate.  Best parcel I've ever unwrapped  :grin2: I'm getting excited  :pepper:

Valley cover ?
The bit that covers the big hole
Under the inlet manifold
As opposed to an open engine where you can see the push rods doing their thing

Ahh my young apprentice  :therethere: Mopars have a separate valley cover. We can take off our intake manifolds without uncovering our oily valleys.  No hasals to ensure you have it oily tight if one elects to remove the intake manifold later.
Also allows the intake manifold to run cooler.  No water runs through our intake manifolds either.  :shades: :drag:

Yeah I reckon if you per-assembled the inspection cover with the right blue stuff sealant and let it set you could even get away with not fitting those bolts that fouled out, worst come to worst that is

I wonder which  is the best way to go
Is it better to have your engine blow up on a dyno or  some where down the 1/4 mile.
What happened to the times of run it,  pull the plugs make your best estimate and adjust fuel timing etc.
observing what the engine is telling you,

When she runs sweet ( a little dark in the exhaust )  its all good.
When it goes F&n bang  it time to start over again.

Hard to tell.  On paper it should be 900 hp at the flywheel but I'd be happy if I got 600-700ish.  Biggest restriction is the intake manifold.  It's a stocker which I needed to keep it all under the hood

Haven't been yet.  Had to get a new centre carby custom made.  The original couldn't keep up. That took about a month to get done in USA.  Just fitted it so hoping to get to orange very shortly.

That's 1570 cfm sitting on top :thud:

Haven't been yet.  Had to get a new centre carby custom made.  The original couldn't keep up. That took about a month to get done in USA.  Just fitted it so hoping to get to orange very shortly.

That's 1570 cfm sitting on top :thud:

Did you say 1570 cfm sitting on top custom manufactured by Atlas Copco CammO ?

Sad parts is that your all most likely correct   :tears: bar you Jethro  :kickass:

I looked down the throat of the middle carby,  with the throttle opened but not enough for the other two to open, and it looked something like this

Finished on the engine jig. The new heart is mounted in it's cradle and on a pallet ready for the trip to the Dyno.

Now just got to book a date which may be a week or two.  Heading off to Victoria again on Monday 11-08-14 for a week

600HP, thought that was ok with the manifold restrictions.  It really wanted to pull/breathe more but I aint having no carbies on a taller manifold sticking out through my hood.

But the torque....... 700 foot pounds (that's all but 950 nm) all happening under 5800rpm.

I'm going to need more tyres... gearboxs.... diffs.... axles

I'm happy  :pepper:

That's the drivers side headers done. Got to take my hat off to young Jerremy at Liverpool Exhaust. I have better access to the steering box and spark plugs than I did with the old motor and manifold. Pipes are smaller at heads and get larger as they make their way down into the collector. i.e. stepped headers

That's because I have been enjoying it.  :drag:
She's going well.  Just tweaking a bit at a time all of those six barrels to get the plugs running the right colour.  With each tweak get a little more out of her.  Tweaked up the suspension to resolve some axle hop.  So all good in the world of Mopar.... bar fuel consumption. But what does one expect with 1570cfm sitting on top
