Video: Very Rare And Valuable Corvettes Visit Leno’s Garage
« on: January 04, 2013, 04:08:47 PM »
As far as car collectors go, Jay Leno may have one of the largest and most diversified car collections on the planet. The man has just about every make and model of car worth owning, and he regularly treats his fans to special videos centering on rare and awesome cars, sometimes vehicles that aren’t even in his collection.

Recently Leno invited GM CEO Dan Akerson onto his show in an effort to pump up interest in Akerson’s own 1958 Corvette, which will be sold at auction for charity later this month. Akerson didn’t come empty handed either, bringing along three different rare and valuable classic Corvettes, including a one-of-one “Stingray” that Leno thinks would fetch $10 million at auction.

Sounds crazy, but Leno is lowballing it if anything. While technically not a Corvette, this unique concept car was the first application of the Stingray name to a Chevy sports coupe. Designed by Peter Brock and Larry Shinoda, two famous car designers of the era, the Stingray was actually based on the frame of the short-lived Corvette SS. Fitted with a 315 horsepower fuel-injected 283 V8 engine, this was one lively ride.

GM has never sought to sell the Stingray concept, no doubt due to its importance in influence every Corvette made since the Stringray’s debut (including the C7, according to Akerson). The CEO of GM also brought along one of the first ‘53 Corvettes built and an immaculate ‘63 split-window, but the Stingray steals the show. This is one 20 minute YouTube video worth watching start to finish.

On a side note... Jay knows more about these cars than this putz does!! How many horses is this one? 375? Oh, it's around 370-375 somewhere's is there... Meanwhile back at the ranch... Mr. Goodwrench is pacing the floor - didn't he do ANY HOMEWORK before embarrassing us all on national TV?
