The Australian Confederation of Motor Clubs (ACMC) announces the appointment of Terry
Thompson OAM to the Road Safety Advisory Council as a representative of the motor vehicle
enthusiast movement. The ACMC is proud to be given such an opportunity as this is the first time
that enthusiasts have had a voice on such a Government body.
Mr Thompson said that he appreciates the confidence placed in him by the ACMC Executive and
commended ACMC President, Tony O’Donnell, ACMC Patron, Alan Hay and the Executive
members for successfully combining the various elements of the movement, in NSW, for the first
time. He also praised Roads & Ports Minister, Duncan Gay for his initiative in seeking club
representation, the Nationals for their support and the efforts of Mr Peter Wells of the Roads &
Maritime Service.
He said that the ACMC is also very appreciative of the assistance rendered by the specialist
Motoring Media. In particular, Street Machine Magazine was an enormous help in promoting the
successful Motoring Enthusiasts Conference at Eastern Creek Raceway on 26th February this year.
Terry will also be the co-chair of the newly-formed Vehicle Standards Working Group, which has
been tasked with resolving the issues surrounding modifications to vehicles, among other things.
Initially, he looks forward to solving the impasse which has stifled the hot rod building industry in
NSW.
With hot rods, street machines, four-wheel drives and classic vehicles, all under the same banner,
the ACMC has an enormous membership base and can put forward the views and concerns of all
members. This overcomes the fragmentation of the past.
Terry brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from within the movement to this position. He
expressed his commitment to learning more about all aspects of the various associations listed
below, which currently form the ACMC.

Mr Thompson was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 2003 for services to Historic Motoring
and Motorsport.
His first car club involvement was in 1966, joining the Sydney Tech College Car Club before he had
a drivers license. The club was then under the Presidency of the legendary Brian Lawler who inspired
Terry to continue his interest in cars of all types.

 Chairman of CAMS Drift Advisory Panel in NSW.

 Patron of the Cronulla RSL Motoring Enthusiasts Group.

 Secretary of the 33 Sporting Car Club.
