WHERES MY BLOODY 2ND PRIZE TROPHIE? THATS RIGHT, 2ND PRIZE AGAIN. ALWAYS TO THE SAME PERSON. WHEN IS THIS CLUB GONNA GET HALF SERIOUS ABOUT JUDGING CARS? I DONT MEAN PAYING PRO'S TO DO IT BUT HOW ABOUT GETTING OUR VOLUNTEER JUDGES TO SCOPE THE RANGE BEFORE ACTUALLY JUDGING THEM. MY ENGINE BAY KICKS ARSE BUT ONLY GOT 5 MORE POINTS THAN THE GUY THAT ALWAYS COMES FIRST AND HIS E/BAY IS PLAIN. OR IS IT BECAUSE IM NOT 80 YO AND DONT SOCIALISE WITH CLUB HIERACHY? KEEP THE TROPHIE IM DOIN WHAT MY MATES TOLD ME TO DO AGES AGO, IM NOT RENEWING MY M/SHIP.

It's a shame this wasn't handled a little more constructively.

Nobody has enquired with me about judging of cars or concerns with the process between now and Bella Vista ocurring over two months ago now.  Nor has anybody expressed displeasure with the results.  If anybody had complaints I genuinely would take the time to listen and discuss the matter.

If you had attempted to speak to me, you would have found that the judges were instructed to familiarise themselves with the field prior to judging.  You also would have found that had you approached me about it you would have been able to have a discussion about our respective opinions on the process and perhaps come out of it with a different way of seeing things  rather than anonymously posting your assumption that the process is biased or corrupt which discredits so many innocent people who are trying to do something in volunteering for their club.

I don't think the process is perfect, and a lot of excellent cars go home with nothing - not many get so upset about it though.  Most are happy to enjoy the camraderie of the day and consider a trophy a bonus if they get one.

Rather than registering this username weeks ago and starting this thread today, you should have picked up the phone and spoken to myself or someone else on the committee about your concerns - it would have been far more adult and constructive.

I'll look into the matter of trophies tomorrow and see what is amiss.

I believe part of this may be directed to me personally, so I'll respond.

You should have been handed your trophy on the day and if not, then very soon afterwards, so you have a legitimate complaint there, and that should be directed to the President or Vice President personally.

I would like to make a few points about the other issues raised:

Before every Show and Shine event the Committee calls for people to volunteer as judges. That call is open to every member. Volunteers, giving up their day, are behind every role and task in the Club.

Yes, your engine bay is very neat but there are 4 aspects judged, namely engine bay, interior, exterior and presentation -- perhaps attention needs to be paid to all components.

None of the Committee, which is the team that manages the club's activities, is anywhere near 80 years old, a fact that is immediately evident upon introducing yourself to them.

I don't always come first. The record shows that your car won that trophy last year.

Finally, this club prides itself on its friendly and social nature. If socialising is not your thing, fair enough, but it if it is then you are very welcome, along with all members, to join us on the many club events offered throughout the year.

There are no hard feelings on my part and I hope to see you at Bella Vista next year.

best way to settle it? ...whoever is concerned each put 5 pics up....engine,interior,side profile,3/4 view front and back....
thats the only way.....
let whoever is on this forum decide.....
better yet....want an unbiased opionion? park both cars in a shopping mall....see which one draws the most crowd, and listen to the comments of joe public.

ive seen some real nice vettes, and ive seen some not so nice,BUT LOOK BETTER.....what the judges (whomever they may be) on the day decide is all that counts.....
all i can comment on is 72vet's car which i have only seen pics of on this forum....
to ME its a sweet ride....sits oh just right, (which i personally love) and is a nice colour.....WHICH POPS.... if that makes sense.....sikovit.... where is your ride? all i can see is an engine bay, thats does look sweet IMHO.....but what about the rest of the car? how good is the interior? paint? body?does it sit like a 4wd? ...i dont wish to upset anyone....but if you think you can judge better.....put your hand up.... THATS the problem..... people do this for free.... and sometimes cop abuse for it....
is that fair?
want better/accredited judges? who pays?
i can appreciate modified vettes as well as as stocky.... what do you suggest mate?
NCRS judges who wouldnt even look at a modified vette and award points to an original, even if it is not the best condition...but it is original?
or award point ON THE OVERALL CONDITION OF THE VETTE.....
without naming names.....how do you judge a replica of a car which is a car i fell in love with the moment i first seen pic of....(which is so rare its near impossible to get hold of a genuine)  or the same year car that needs a bit of work to improve?...whats "looks" best....hard to beat the replica for shear WOW factor...but if went to NCRS judging they wouldnt award points for this....nor that
i know which way i would go....
i personally like vettes converted to wagons using the ecklers kit..... you may not.....

I understand where you're coming from Nifty, but this isn't the place to try to re-run a NSW Club Show and Shine event that's done and dusted.

I don't believe there's anything to be "settled" other than "sikovit" being promptly delivered his trophy, which he should have received on the day it was awarded.

As others have said, there are more constructive ways of airing grievances with aspects of the Club's operation.

yeah your right gtc....but is it a case of sour grapes?
true im not a member of nsw club,or any club for that matter....but this is not the first ( or last ) time this has happened in ALL manner of sports/games/events....
bit like..."my dads better than your dad"
all im trying to say is....grow up....get a life....ITS A CAR......BIG DEAL......
is it worth losing friends over? thats all corvettes are to me...
an avenue of friendship.... you know what im talking about with the C.O.W.s gtc....true i dont own a vette anymore, and prob never will....but the friendship remains....if i never owned one,or wasnt interested in them i KNOW i wouldnt have these friends....
to throw friendship away over a 2 doller trophey? geeezus "h" christ...

Nice rant. 8/10 You lose points for the lack of spelling errors and too much punctuation. Bonus points for all caps.  Needs more "Don't you know who I am !!" style comments though.

I am totally against being competetive at any type of show. Anyone who makes an effort to bring something deserves the praise of their peers and the public and thats enough.
I have never been able to work out how one thing can be judged better than another (even the cars that arent perfect are still loved by someone).
People that are only driven by their egos only go home dissapointed in the end (even if they do win a trophy).
I have owned old cars and bikes since I could drive. I have only ever won one trophy for best paint on my Harley ( which I probably didnt deserve). The only other time I tried to win a trophy was at The bankstown Bike show where there was a specific category for my Model. I had just finished a concourse resto on this bike (1968 FLH) only to be beaten by a guy that had bought a brand new one 6 weeks before (work that one out).
All my cars are drivers. I love going to shows and showing off my stuff. What I like more is driving off when Im done after having a good day.
After restoring cars for myself and others over the last 20 years it always amazes me how some of my customers are driven more by recognition rather than the passion for the object even to the point of saying they did it all themselves the (most recent example being that "Cryptonite" T Bucket at Motorex). I painted it and another guy put it together.
The only competition that should be entertained is one where there is a clear winner such as sport whether it be physical or mechanical (racing). My two bobs worth.
