Black Weatherstrip Glue
« on: June 19, 2008, 03:42:06 PM »
I have bought all new weatherstrips for my vert. I was told they  (willcox) could not send glue internationally.

I've gone to every local auto store and Clark Rubber and NO-ONE has black weatherstrip glue. They all carry the yellow stuff I've been told not to use.

Does anyone here know of an Australian supplier that has Black weatherstrip glue. I know 3M make some but I have been unable to track that down locally as well as none of them stock that brand!

Cheers

Hi Demonx;58
The only weather strip glue that will work is "sikaflex-255";27
But be very very careful using this product as once it is dry it will not come off unless you want to remove the weather seal in pieces as well as some paint.;30

Thanks - must have missed that. Will use that as backup plan.

Still - anyone have a source for 3M in Australia?

The 3M product you are after does not work as it will fail in a year or maybe two

sikaflex, you got to be kidding, sorry its actually to strong for W/S, 3M do make it and its available for most auto paint suppliers for about $6

sikaflex is evil, and used way too much, even on firewalls by some converters, so don't tak eit personal

I would not recommend Sikaflex aka Urethane, as once you have used it on something it must cut off.  You use urethane or Silaflex on Windscreens etc
Have you thought about Black Silastic?

There are several different types of Sikaflex. I have used the one that is recomended for rubber(I believe that's the one Chromie is talking about) on the mrs's Bimmer when the factory glue had let go around the door frame. It hasn't let go since.
NOW WE'RE TORQUING!

Since this thread was a bit slow to debate a solid/agreed product, I made the choice today to order the 3M glue.

If down the track the rubber starts to fall off as suggested - I'll look around again!

If anyones curious about the results - PM me in a year or two :v
