Whats the definition of a "crate engine"? Is it old style so its immune from emmision control?

"Crate" means complete in the box and ready for install. Kinda like what Holden do .... take a magnificent Chev engine and drop it into a Commodore body giving people the impression it's Holden's work. Ford on the other hand, build their own ( .... sheilds up);laugh

Once dropped into the car, registration laws of that country will determine issues like emmission control, computer etc etc.

.... and an awesome 4bbl it is too! Did you also notice the rocker covers are similar to mine except painted red. Actually I wouldn't be surprised if they're the big block version out of the catalogue.

The answer to your question though, is that particular engine is optioned like that in the crate. Other's are optioned as fuel injected etc ...

U gonna paint yours red too? I'd say thats an easy way to keep em clean. Then you'd have the "son of 572"

A 572ci would be pretty handy if you want to pull a tree-stump out of the yard.

The only downside is all the extra weight in the front of the car.  The Corvette is pretty balanced as it is, and a heavy nose can cause handling problems.
