By the way in NSW, to get US style (shape) number plates made, according to the RTA, requires orders of about 10,000 a year to be economically viable.

In Victoria, the RTA is selling the "euro" style plates. The car hobby is lobbying the RTA to make US sized plates available. If they can do it for one segment of the hobby they can do it for another, right?

Chevrolet really doesn't need the international market for Corvettes as it barely keeps up with the demand in the US only. As most countrys will take them as they are anyway ie; LHD it hardly seems like a good investment for them to bother building it in RHD.

There is another way to get a USA-sized number plate ..... move to Queensland.

They cost $395 for a personalised 3 Alpha 2 Digits (150mm x 300mm) in a variety of colours.   http://www.ppq.com.au

Because they are personalised plates, the purchaser owns them for life.... or until sold.   Of course, getting some mug punter (like me) to fork out $395 for a bucks worth of stamped aluminium is a great mark up for a business... what price Vanity huh?

At those kinds of markups, how many sets do they have to sell to make it economically viable?   Me thinks about one set will put 'em into the black... all the rest is cream.

Of course if you go to the expense of moving up here to avail yourself of our overpriced number plates, be aware that we can't sell you any more of our land cos we are saving what's left for the Japanese.
