Took, the corvette out for its daily flight and I noticed a slight and non consistant power loss, hmm, methinks, loose plug, maybe sh*@ engine?

no.

Upon inspection I found a little rubber cap that sits on the manifold had a crack which was now a coolant leak. The higher the revs, the further it sprayed. Whats more it sprayed forward onto the fan which evenly distributed coolant all over the engine bay...YES!

Cost of rubber cap = 99c
Cost of cleaning = a few hours

Just somthing to think about next time u pop the hood....

With cars as old as ours, it pays to check them out just that little bit more often.

I don't think age has anything to do with it when it comes to most Corvettes.  Then again, maybe I like to look for excuses to pull things apart...:mmm

Seriously though, I had a similar thing happen with the cap on my water reserve bottle. There was no power loss or anything except that the fans kept running, but green coolant all over the place !

hey  whitey  you  should  see  what a  leaky  water  pump  can  spray  in  the  engine bay  of a  big  block  2km  away  from a  convention  in  brisbane,  we  thought  I'd  collected  kermit  with  all  the  green  muck  about  lololololololo,  glad  you  didn't  have  more  damage  ;)

OUT COME THE  OVER HEATING STORIES!.WHILST LIVING IN THE U.S I WAS DRIVING MY VETTE BACK FROM A TRIP TO SAN FRAN ON THE 5 FREEWAY IN THE 45C DESERT HEAT (WITH NO AIRCON),WHEN THERE WAS A TRAFFIC HOLD UP CAUSED FROM AN ACCIDENT.SO I WAS STATIONARY FOR ABOUT AN HOUR,THEN IT EVENTUALLY STARTED MOVING-SLOWLY.THEN AS I APPROACH AN UPHILL MOUNTAIN SECTION MY POOR BIG BLOCK SAID "ENOUGH IS ENOULD".THE TEMP GAUGE HIT THE END,I COULDNT PULL OVER DUE TO 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC FLYING PAST ME(I'M THINKIN ENGINE SEIZURE FOR SURE).i SAW A SIGN FOR A PULL OVER STOP ABOUT 2 MILES AWAY-PANIC PANIC.I MADE IT ,PULLED OVER OPEN THE HOOD AND IT WAS SPEWING OUT FROM UNGER THE CAP!LET IT COOL FOR A BIT THEN OPEN THE CAP-NO IT WAS STILL TO HOT HENCE THE GREEN STUFF SHOT 6FT INT THE AIR.EVENTUALLY AN HOUR LATER I PUT WATER IN AND DROVE OFF.I MADE IT HOME! Yes, lets talk about heat, my vette has never overheated, even when the water wasnt full.

But whats got me stumped is why does it run hotter on the freeway than in traffic?
Yes, even after a freeway run, getting back into traffik makes the needle back off.

I don't think its a grounding problem btw, its always done this, even after I took a direct cable from the battery and grounded the guages.
