Hood Release Cable
69VETTE:
Hello guys,
I Would like to know whether anyone knows where i can get a hood release cable made here in australia (preferably sydney). I only need the inner wire cable.
The cable to my 69vette broke (only hours ago) near the perforated tagg section.
I can order one from the states, buts its $45 US + shipping and i dont need the outer shield.
I still have all the parts.
Thanks

hi 69 vette.thats a common problem with those cables,i have had it happen to me twice, what i did was go to the hardware store and bought a solid stianless steel cable, cxut it to lenght and had a guy weld or swet it int5o the two handles i have, now i have a spare and the one that is in it now has been there for about 18 months now and so far no problems.;42

Hi 69vette
I assume that you mean the one inside the vehicle and has the"T" handle.
I use a multi strand cable which has the "T' handle (made in England).
I modify the original mount bracket by closing the eye and putting a 3/8" N/F thread.
It is then simply a matter of screwing the new cable assembly in and trim to suit.
So far I have had no come backs and I have been using this system for 20 years.
Welded cables tend to break where welded.
Most cable faults are caused by incorrect hood latch adjustemnts which puts a strain on the cables when pulled to release. :bold:};41

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the feedback. The cable im acutually referring to is the one which is mounted to the underside of the hood that connects the hoodlatch.
The cable is in a black sheath and on one end had a flat metal with perforations where the cable is connected by press squeeze.
In the corvette americal catalogue its part no 2346 on pg 315.
Thanks
Can anyone tell me whether there is a difference between the 69-76 model hood release cable and that of the 77-82? Cause theres a $20 US price difference.

Hi 69vette
Yes there is a difference the 1978-82 is on the firewall
Pre 1977 is on the hood
I recommend that you run the original type as they never really fail under "normal" conditions
Measure the cable lenght before ordering as there are some different lenghts most were between 1968 & 1972. After that they stayed to one length.
