For those of you who recall my dramas on the dragstrip at the 2006 Convention where I had a metallic "clinking" noise coming from my cars rear end.

Those who were around my car at the time may recall my concerns that it was
A.  A damaged differential
B.  A damaged low tyre pressure sensor inside one of my rims

Here are some pictures I took after I had my drag radials taken off my rims:

No, nice was when I was talking cars to the guy as he dismounted the drag radial off my other rim - and blew the other wheel sensor off the rim when the tyre snapped off the bead because he wasn't watching due to being mid conversation with me. ;30

How did it happen?

My best guess is that the person who mounted the tyres nicked the sensor with a prybar while mounting the drag radial to the rim (they were mounted the day before the convention started).  Nicking it hard enough to snap or crack one of the tabs that held it to the giant clamp that fits around the rim would have been all it needed.  You can see where the wheel sensor housing has come off the clamp in the last pic.

Once that was done centrifugal force would have finished the wheel sensor off.  Thats the best that I can figure...
