Hi Guys,

Long time no post.

I am getting excited, after searching off and on for the best part of 2 years (some of you may remember me coming to a couple of club meetings) I have put a deposit on a vette in the U.S.

As I know a few of you have imported cars I was just wondering what the best way to transfer the money is so that you don't get TOO burned (I am guessing it is impossible to send that amount of money across the pacific and not get a little hurt exchange rate and fee wise)

Any help would be great.

I paid for my 64 via EFT...Electronic Funds Transfer thru my Credit Union direct to the vendor's bank account. There's no getting away from the exchange rate no matter which way you go.
One thing you may not be aware of is that when the GST is appraised on the value of your vehicle (which includes your shipping costs and insurance), is that it's based on the exchange rate at the time the car leaves the US and not when you purchased the car!
In my case I was fortunate that the rate was higher than when I bought the car, but it could have quite easily gone the other way.

I was thinking electronic transfer would be the way to go but I thought it was worth asking you guys.

As for what I have found, it is a '70 coupe, small block, auto, ps pw pb ac. matching no's drivetrain.

Electronic transfer from you bank is best! Make sure you have as much bank and account info as possible to give to the bank. I think it costs about $30.
