1987 rear end squeak
« on: December 01, 2019, 05:49:55 PM »
Hope someone can help
I have a rather annoying squeak from the right hand rear wheel when the car is cold, drive it 10 or so kilometers  and it stops, until the car cools down again. It only happens under acceleration and if you take your foot off of the accelerator the squeak stops,I have tried with my foot lightly on the brake and it makes no difference.
Its just really annoying and I hate random squeaks

Have you tried driving slow and pulling on the hand brake a little , it may be park brake rubbing . Also could be wheel bearing . Ray

yep, done the brake/ebrake thing and squeak is still there and from my experience a wheel bearing is more of a deep growl that doesn't go away

One needs to hear this , to have an opinion.

Half shaft uni joints had the Richard

Very true hearing it however I do not think would have helped !!

I took the rear end apart and fitted new shocks as the old ones were dead and had a good look around and the uni joints in the half shafts were buggered,

The worst one had no roller bearings in it and the next worst had a cup full of red dust and was almost impossible to turn by hand. Quick trip to the local Hardy Spicers in Newcastle and home with 4 brand

spanking new joints, Its all back together now, will double check all bolts tomorrow and test drive

The worst part of the uni joints was that there were no symptoms,no vibrations, nothing to give a clue there was a problem apart from a squeak when the car was cold
