Are all yanks dumb?
« on: August 20, 2014, 04:08:25 PM »
Are all yanks dumb? Or only the ones I deal with.
Last week I bought some parts off a dealer for my car.front and rear bars and a grill.
Total cost $500 us plus he quoted $250 for postage.
I deposit the money and I receive an email saying the parts are on there way and the postage cost is $1059.
He commented that he thought it would be ok and could I pay the balance.
I rang him and he said the parcel weighed more than 50lbs and the post offic wouldnt handle it so he went to ups.
During the call he said I could have he parts for free as long as I paid him the balance.
I believe he paid the money im just not sure why he didnt contact me. How do people honestly function.

The pricing is about rite for 50 lb  shipped by  UPS door to door
how ever  there are better alternatives you could have used
DHL would be cheaper

But what do you do  is the question
I would wait and see if the parts  turn up just in case its a scam.

When I bought the stuff I asked for a shipping price. He gave me the $250 quote to ship from arizona. I dont even know how it ended up 50lbs. C2 bars weigh nothing.
If he had come back with a thousand dollar quote I would have had him send them to my mate in long beach who ships containers out every two weeks. When I first bought the parts I even told him he could post to long beach.
I cant believe he didnt get back to me. Im just going to wait to see what happens.

Any intelligent seller would first check with the buyer when the shipping ends up 4 times the original estimate.

His not dumb, he's just a shifty operater knowing that you're in a jamb, and he's taking advantage of the circumstances. I would ask for a full refund.

Damn, that's highway robbery

The box was all broken open also. Bloody miracle really everything is there.

Be very thankful you weren't ripped off completely or got the wrong parts.

Next time it may be worth asking around the forums and check from feedback from others as to who the good suppliers of what parts you're after are.

Some forums even have a thread dedicated to good service from suppliers, businesses, etc.

It was off ebay.

In that case, unless he's already left positive feedback for the transaction, there's the possibility that he'll leave a negative and report a non-payer, and you'd have to open a dispute case with eBay to clear your reputation.

If it came to that, I'd say you'd have a fairly good case as he didn't seek and obtain your agreement on the increased shipping price before acting. Messy all round, though.

Sellers cant leave negative feedback, or at least here they cant

Seems they changed the policy a while back and I missed it. However, they can still ping a buyer for non payment. As I said, this one is messy thanks to the seller not communicating properly with the buyer.

I contacted the guy tonight and explained to him my position. He seemed to concede it was his problem and that he would wear the loss.
It seems to me in my business if I stuff up its my problem not the customers.
I feel terrible. Hopefully he learns from it as I will when communicating with sellers to not make a decision on my behalf.
