Importation of Wheels from the States
« on: March 19, 2014, 09:16:13 PM »
Hey does anyone know about importation of wheels from the states?.
I am wondering if a product as in a particular brand of wheels that is not available in Australia and only available in the States would I still be hit up for the full import duty?

Unless the goods are classed as "exempt", import duty kicks in at shipment value of AU$1,001 (and that total includes any shipping and handling). Then they add GST.

Here are the rules:

It's C3 chromie for me, see? Si!

If you buy out of the US ask the suppler to give you a declaration   quoting  the Australian US free trade agreement.
that only applies if the good and manufactured in the US  with US  origin materials
.
you then will not pay  duty .
there is no way out of the GST  over $1000 and that total includes freight

If you ship them in pairs or separately does it work out cheaper?

Beauty bfit cheers I'll see what happens with that, they won't be ready for at least another 10 weeks, each sets made custom, they are going to look amazing 20 x 10 front and 20 x 13's on the rears the rubber will be 285/25/20 and 345/25/20  :shades:
Here's the rims and the stance she'll have, long time away but just can't help posting, the guys from D2forged are doing some rendering and photoshopping for me tomorrow, best customer service I have ever had with ordering over 44 emails in a week, questions answered in minutes, couldn't be happier.

I purchased wheels from the states last year for my audi TT (second hand but not use off display car) and let me assure you, the customs guys and girls here are not stupid.. they know, the prices etc... originally my wheels were $1200US and when they arrived, they cost me like another $700AU on top, to get through with shipping fees (they came from California via Hawaii Airlines Freight), customs, and taxes.. all up, they cost me around $2000 AU landed or there abouts... but it was worth it, cause the wheels here from Audi Australia cost $9500 Au...lloll

Cheers Jethro, yeah that could work, they won't be ready for another 2 months
It was going to cost me $900 for shipping so it would def be cheaper ii would imagine, i have been in contact with Yvette asked about shipping the Vette.
I'll give her a ring when get home as still at work for a week, actually have an email for her so will send them an email and see what they say, would have to get from NY to LA but I am sure would be cheaper in long run.
Thanks bud

Pretty good idea Bfit, I had thought about it, I'd need rubber for them, someone to fit and then they would need to be taken off again for performax etc to much of a risk of damage or anything else in between there and here, they are very expensive wheels, I have a mate who will be supplying me with the tyres here in Aus and cheaper than anywhere else.
Thanks for the ideas though, :-)
