Correct C3 Engine Block Stamping
« on: July 08, 2013, 06:59:37 PM »
Lads your assistance please.

I have to re-stamp my block as when we decked it it removed all existing numbers.  The  block had been re-stamped once before (refer to attached pic)

Questions:
The Engine had two stamps as a Engine No: "19S704264" I would call about 3/16 in size and another number "V1004HW" 1/4" in size is this correct ?
If so, What size stamps to I use ?
Does anyone have the correct stamps I can borrow ?

Thanks

Jethro

You can buy an alpha numerical stamp set from any machinery or tool shop, but if you want it to look "correct" you really need a "gang holder" and the right size and font stamps, which are not available here, as far as I know.

A poorly stamped engine (done individually) not only looks bad, but can can also hurt the value of your car.
I would put a lot of research into doing this if you want it to remain "matching numbers"

The larger "Flint" engine plant stamp and the lighter partial VIN look typical and the pad has good broach marks, but the heavier partial VIN stamp looks all wrong to me.

Pryor
Supply letter and number stamps with multiply stamp holder
In imperial. &  metric stamps

It's not to hard to do an excellent Job, one stamp at a time
It takes practise and you only get one go at getting it rite .
Most engineering shops will have several sizes of stamps
Every engine shop I worked at and know of would be able to do this for you.

Once the heads go on it gets very hard.
Different size stamps is the normal
Looking at the photo neither of the two vette model numbers was done with a stamp set.

Jethro I don't mean to be picky
But is that as straight as you could get it

Now that you have it stamped

Ring Brookes engraving in the Goog and get them to engrave a engine ID plate. and drill and tap the block and screw it on over the stamping
or  glue it on

It will look great and add more bling  to your engine bay
