I'What are things worth now.
« on: August 23, 2011, 10:42:38 PM »
I knew it would happen. With the strong dollar and the flood of cars coming in from the usa it inevitably had to affect the market.
I've been watching a yellow 66 coupe at various sydney car yards start at 80 grand and gradually the price has dropped. Today it was at 45000. I'm not sure if its numbers matching  and its got a 67 stinger bonnet on it but the car is mint.
Its got to be the cheapest c2 in the country.
Looking at magazines like just cars I really think we have reached saturation of american cars.
Maybe thats why aussie cars are going up.

:agree:

Not a good time to be selling my C3.  It seems it's a flood of ordinary cars too from what I can see.  That and the 30yr left hand drive rule covers all but 1982 and up.  Some good bargains out there though. :grr:

Car yards do put on riduculous prices though.

I dont think this car is over priced. A couple of years ago $70000 was the going price for a small block c2.
Somebody should buy this car. Its a really good one.
Its on Parramatta road burwood next to the Woolworths servo.

Dave, it's also in Carsales.com and has been for a long while, with progressive price reductions. At $45K, I'm surprised it hasn't gone. Anyone got a lazy $45 K sitting 'round??

Buying a car any car
IF this car is  not on consignment  the car yard will not sell with our a profit
If the price is dropping then I would think is on consignment.

Now   the value Is only what some one with the money will pay.
dealing with car yards  is an art give it a lot of thought before going to inspect.
show very little interest and offers should start Low30/40% below  asking price
Set your limit  before  talking to the sales  person
Remember its all a game of manipulation
both ways
Believe nothing you are told and be  prepared to walk away.
Only buy at the end of the month and best time is end of  financial year

My personal opinion is that things will get cheaper  and the world  economy goes down  over the next few month (year )

There are a lot of reasons not to spent you spare money at the moment

It is ridiculous the number of US cars for sale 'with import approval'. Everyone has been buying whatever they can while the $$$ is good and the yanks need cash. Ship them over and try make a profit. Unfortunately everyone had the same idea.
Supply and demand.
At the moment there is a huge supply, and not much demand.

The unknown and dubious quality of most cars also affects the price of the good ones out there.

That said, I just bought a mustang from the states while the $$$ was good.  It arrives next week.

Good original survivor cars are still hard to find thou , most of the good stuff is still hidden away , ,
i missed out on a mint 69L88 that sold for $180k by one day , that car 2 years ago was $400k plus
i just bought an all original  Cal black & yellow plated   69/ L71/435hp coupe , red/ black int , and fully loaded PW,PS,TILT .Leather ,  with all the docs , and a 68/L89 Ragtop  Green/Black int ,been restoed
i must have looked at 50 cars , they were either tarted up  junk , dodgy , or restoed stuff

If  RTA keeps up the direction  they are on.
its going to get quite a lot more difficult to get full rego  for imported vehicles
Quite a lot of engineers  that are required to get cars registered
Look to be opting out of the system
The current regime  to get  a car registered finishes  29th of next month.

ON the good side
That may make a few registered car worth more

Hey Dave, that '66 is no longer on Carsales.com. Did you end up buying it?

No not me bob. Since I've hurt my back I've hardly earnt a cent.
I went past there on monday. The 66 has been replaced with a red c2 roadster. As much ai thought the car was a bargain why would I buy another 66.
As mentioned before I'm after a maserati project for this engine.
