Hi everyone. I'm new and a paid up member of your club. I too have wanted a Corvette for many years. I too have had the posters up on the bedroom wall as a teenager. And now I have the means to get one. I like the later C3's around '78-'80. I know they are down on horsepower and are not as collectable but I like the rounded rear window and the general lines.

Please take a look at this one. It is for sale in Casino by a guy called "Joe". He has 3 for sale and they all look fantastic but at a low price. I suspect he has filled a container and thrown a few thousand on top for a quick profit. What ever - as long as they aren't rusty and have no damage history. Maybe because they aren't so collectable and are auto's with L48 engines.

Anyway I suppose I better wonder up there and have a look. Do you guys have any suggestions/ insights???

Out of the 78 - 80 range cars I'd be more inclined to look at the 1978. Only reason being that is the 25th anniversary year and they'll be worth a lot more in the long run and I love the look af the black and silver pace car!

Production numbers for 1979 are the largest out of all the older Corvettes, in fact I think it might be the highest production year for all corvettes?? - so 1979 is the most common older corvette thus price should also resemble this.

The 1980 has different bumper/spoilers which creates way better air flow and is also a lighter car than the 78-79, but it comes down to what you like the look of.

At the end of the day Corvettes are the same as any other car and you need to check the suspension, bushes, ball joints etc etc, look over all the RWC stuff as you would if you were buying any other car. Then look over the cosmetic stuff like the interior and paint and see what kind of dollars you need to spend to make it something you'll be happy with. Make sure the lights etc pop up and basicly check that everything works.

                                   Maybe before you go up there get the seller to take a heap of close up shots and email them to you to give a better idea before drivng that far.

That price does seem to good to be true but.

sure the chromies may look better, but thats a matter of personal taste... i love the look of the chromies, but having spent 5 hrs as shotgun in a mint 80 a couple of weeks ago, all i can say is the 80 is a far better car than my 74 ever was..., and my 74 was a nice car.
only fault i found with the 80, was the seats are a bit too tight, or im a bit too big, hahaha....
as for the engine, its a chev... it may be robbed of horsepower, but the grunt is still inside there somewhere, it just needs to be found and let loose....

Andy, that 79 looks like a very tidy car, mate and at that price I think it is a good buy. You might even be able to crunch the guy down a bit also but either way I dont think you can go to far wrong with this deal. Like the other boys have said, just check that whats car works such as A/C, Power Windows and all the Vacuum stuff.
