Do you mean, what temperature should the thermostat open at?

Do you have the owner's manual? It should state the thermostat temp in the Cooling System specs at the back of the manual. (I'm guessing 180F, though I have seen 195F in some specs.)

As for running temp, does the engine have the standard factory fan, or have electric fans been fitted? And do you have aircon?
It's C3 chromie for me, see? Si!

Not sure what my 70 is meant to have but I remember my 76 was meant to have a 160 thermostat.

A lot of the blokes in the USA say 180 thermostats, but USA and Australia are different climates as well.

160 or 180 thermostat doesn't really matter.  If your temp is over 200, that is a bit high.  Ones I've had never really got hotter than 190.

Seal up the sides and top of your radiator - makes about 10 deg F difference in my experience.  Higher temps are usually due to scale and rust in the block.  When I rebuilt my C4 it ran 20 deg C lower temps - the temp hardly gets higher than 170 now.
