Hmmm some interesting homework being done.
No sorry guys it wasn't Larry Shinoda but you're on the right track.
VO you have highlighted the answer.;laugh
Anatole Lapine or Tony Lapine as he is known in the english speaking world was the design studio engineer and along with a few others worked closely with Larry Shinoda under Bill Mitchell to develop the Stingray racer which was the car that influenced the design of the 63 to 67 vettes.
Tony Lapine left GM (probably had enough of the bickering between Duntov and Mitchell) and went to work for Porsche.
Porsche at the time were looking for some fresh ideas as they believed their 911 with its engine slung out the back behind the rear axle line was aproching its use by date. Porsche weren't looking at replacing the 911 but wanted something they could market along side the 911 and could be easily developed further.
Tony Lapines 928 design incorporated an alloy V8 engine up front with a transaxle mounted up the back, as stated above this made a perfect 50/50 weight distribution. C5 and C6 owners would be quite familiar with this set up.
The first 928 rolled of the production line in 1977 and the last in 1995. The 928 wasn't favoured by the Porsche purists as it didn't feature the air cooled flat six hanging out the back, a Porsche trademark (and VW).
Interestingly the 928 is also known as a shark (or landshark) amongst the 928 clubs and in the US it has often been refered to as the german corvette.

Here is a little more info on the 928 and a little Tony

In 1977, Porsche introduced the 928 at the Geneva Auto Show as a potential replacement for the 911. Design and development of the vehicle began in 1971. The 928 was designed as a luxurious car and a grand tourer, but with its excellent weight distribution and V8 engine, it was a performance machine. In 1978 it was awarded the prestigious European Car of the Year.
