Did you know that now if you import goods for our Vettes that are under $1000 AUD in value that you do not have to pay any import duty or gst?

The new self assess system that is in place allows this.

For more information when bringing goods in, AND ONLY IF you use Bax Global to handle your freight, you can contact Rob Shearman at Bax Global on 02 9598 9817.  Obviously Rob is not going to want to answer any questions if you are not going to use the company he works for, Bax Global.

Just make sure that who ever handles you freight and import duty is aware of the new legislation.  Some companies are not up to speed.  Remember, $1000 AUSTRALIAN!

So, if say for example you import goods that come to the sum of $1500, will you only be charged GST for the $500?

I have a horrible feeling that after $1000 value, any tax and duties are charged on the FULL amount.

Yes you are correct.  I just spoke to Rob.  If the TOTAL shipment is over $1000 AUD, NOT including freight,  then you pay duties where applicable and gst on ALL the goods.  UNDER $1000 AUD and no tax, duties, etc.

How do we stand with the new Trade Agreement tho? If the goods are manufactured in the US, isn't Duty non applicable?
Pardon my ignorance if I have it wrong.

Your correct Brutus.  But under $1000 AUD, not including freight, there is no duty no matter where it is made and no GST either.  Now remember it's the entire order.  So if you buy say three $334 AUD parts it's going to go over the $1000 mark.  Your total order has to be below $1000 AUD not including freight.  There is also no paper work.  It's a SAC. Self-Access-something or other [Cetrificate ,compliance. I just can't remember what the last letter stood for.]

Well if there below $1000 it does not matter but if over $1000 the onus is on YOU to prove that they are made in the united states.  We were only talking about the new free trade agreement with the united states as that is were we buy our parts.  I know nothing about what happens in China.

The onus is NOW on you to prove parts are made in America.  If you can not prove it you pay duty on goods over $1000.  If found guilty of false statements there are now quite heavy fines that can be enforced.

Do you get some parts direct from China?  May be you could find out and post for us how that works.  Do we have free trade agreements with them etc.

Sorry Got ya.    YOU now have to prove that they came from the states and manufactored in the states.  Not China or mexico.  This only applies to complete orders over $1000 AUD not including freight.  They don't need to inspect as now they have put it back on you.

If you can not prove it................pay up!  Again if complete order is under a $1000 AUD no problems
