FOR SALE – 1978 CHEVROLET CORVETTE L82 PACE CAR
This original car was imported into Australia in about 1979 by a US Embassy employee. Subsequently sold, it was converted to right hand drive in 1981 and has been registered in several states of Australia ever since. This vehicle is number 1160 out of a total production of 6502 Pace Cars. The 1978 L82 Corvette Pace Car is the most desirable of the late production C3 Corvettes.
Fitted with the high output L82 matching numbers version of the 350 SBC, the motor currently runs a performance camshaft, but is otherwise in standard configuration. It has its original three speed Turbo-Hydromatic transmission. This car performs, steers and brakes very well and is a very easy car to drive.
The body work is original and has some minor paint marks from age. The paintwork presents very well for an original survivor car, and has appropriate patina. The interior leather seats, door trims and carpet are in original, but good, condition and are more than acceptable without further work. There is a small tear on the driver’s seat bolster. The reflective glass Tee-tops are in excellent condition.
Some extensive fettling was undertaken 1800 miles ago to improve performance, resulting in an additional 30 RWHP. Fuel economy on a trip is approx. 16-17 mpg. An engine hour meter, fitted when the car was converted to RHD, currently shows 1179 hours and the odometer shows 57,606 original miles.
Wheels and fittings are factory original except for a modern radio/CD player. The air conditioning is functional but will require re-gassing.
Some new and used parts are included, as is a folder of relevant documents relating to the car’s history and registration.
The asking price is $41,000 ono, ex- Sydney. Shipping costs are at the purchaser’s expense.
