Hi I have a 57 chevy and I am fitting a 95 c4 front end .could someone tell me which rack is used for your c4  Right Hand Drive conversion. Any help would be appreciated .   Mick

It's a trade secret with convertors.
Have been told late 80's/ early '90 Olds / Buicks had same rack mounted behind X member so when front mounted becomes RHD.

The rack in my RHD conversion appears to be  unmodified GM unit; mirror image of the stock LHD Vette one with nothing to identify what it originally came out off.
As no one is doing C4 conversions any more ,maybe Bondok can let you in on the secret.

My 88 c4 coupe was converted by Corvette Clinic in Melbourne. I'm told it has a Saab rack in it, but I don't know what year or model. Peter or Kane at Corvette Clinic may let you in on their secrets, as they no longer do C4's.

I think VETTENUT is on the money.

I've heard that the SAAB racks have been used in C3 and C4 conversions.

 I met a bloke who used to work for corvette conversions in a pub in ingleburn, who as it turned out did the conversion on mine ( he recognised the car and asked to see the mod plate) he did tell me the bits used but i can't remember now. I'll see if i can find his number and ask him for you.

 There was  a rank n Pinion RHD C4 advertised  on  E bay in the last few weeks  in Melbourne
It was a dealer add
I don't think it sold

my car has previously been registered in NSW, QLd and now SA. ( different onwers)

my conversion was done by a guy in Sydney in 1996 by a company called " Corvette Connection" I have looked into the business and I believe it is no longer operating and the guy who did the conversion is now deceased. If any of the NSW folk know differnt I would love to hear from you as I have a few questions.

The rack is a Buick Skylark ( not sure what year, had to by prior to 97)

Here is a picture of the rack. When I got the car I took it out for a look. If any one can identify it and give me a model or part no it would be good as I would like to buy a spare.

It would not be to hard to re engineer a locally  manufactured  unit  (RHD )
 
Find one that is longer   that the original  in the pivot points  on the rack itself
( inside the telescopic boots )

and get is shortened to suit
you will have to shorten the housing as well .

this racks are quite simple  construction.
If you do not want a power steer unit
look at the rack out of a P76 If you can find one
( as I remember it they are front mounted  {I could be wrong about that }  and very long )

Have you considered the LH Torana  front suspension
I have seen then  fitted to a few different cars
When you see one it not to different  to the corvette in design
Or just check out the rack on  that front end

If you are up to a little engineering
And I would think you are  with what you are undertaking.

According to oldholden.com: "no torana had power steering"

I read an article about a guy who was trying to fit p/steer to a torana he had a subaru & a cortina rack which were the correct length & orientation for torana.
May be a starting point for you. Maybe take it to a p/steer guy he may be able to tell you an aussie delivered car that had same rack. Steering racks would be like gearboxes / diffs I would imagine made by an external company ie like borg warner

Currently fitting a BMW rack to a '67 Camaro.( front mounted on a custom frame )
Nice compact unit with lines in front clear of the crank pulley.
The rear steer GM unit mentioned above when  inverted and mounted in front  for RHD use puts the line up against the pulley

The Police Dept had a few LH SLR 5000's that were de spoilered that had power steering fitted to them from the Factory
There were some very late LX Toranas that were a special order from GMH that had power steering, also UC Toranas were a special order for power steer also.  GMH books do not always tell it how it was
