60 day per year trial

Hi ,
Just heard about a trial in that you can get cheap rego on historical plates, but you don't need a club run number for each outing. You get 60 days per year only and all you have to do is keep a log book up to date.
Does the club endorse this? Anyone tried it yet? Your thoughts?
