Why was Daniel Ricciardo disqualified and how did it happen?

Will be interesting to see what happens here. I can't see the FIA backing down. I'll lay odds they uphold the decision, not matter if right or wrong. They'll use the technicality that Red Bull did not have permission no matter if the sensors were faulty or not. I hope that I'll have to stand corrected.
