Just in from elpresidentay..........
Dear Gary,
myPlates, the brand behind personalised number plates in NSW, will be releasing millions of new number plate combinations on Monday 8 October 2012; the first time in decades that new formats have been released in NSW.
Until now, personalised content has only been released with letters first, followed by numbers. This landmark release of new content introduces three new Numbers First formats (222.AAA, 22.AAA, 22.AAAA) opening up new ways to personalise your plates.
Please feel free to share this with the NSW Corvettes Club
members to let them know about this milestone release. Numbers first Personalised Plates are available for a one-off order fee starting at $160 (depending on plate style chosen) and $99 per year.
You can order yours at www.myplates.com.au or call 131 758 from 9am on Monday 8 October 2012.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me for any more information.
Kind regards,
JEFF KAPLAN

It's a bit rich of them asking $99 per year.
When the RTA were in control of plates if you wanted three letters and three numbers it was a one off payment to have the plate made, that was it.
These guys are just looking to squeeze more money out of us and the money doesn't go back into our roads, they're a private venture.
No thanks.

That was true years ago, and still applies to plates that have not been handed in (i.e. have been continuously on a registered vehicle) since they were bought under that original pricing regime, but for new personalized plates RTA have been charging an order fee and annual rental for years now.

I don't know the details of the deal struck between the NSW government and the company behind myplates.com.au but my guess is that the government would be taking a decent whack of the fees. They don't usually abandon any tax revenue opportunities.

MyPlates is behind it, they're not owned by the RTA, they only give a percentage of the money they make to the RTA.
I went to get plates not so long ago, previously the RTA let you select from a few plates they had stored in the office, not now that MyPlates has a stranglehold, now you get the first one they pick up, no ifs or buts.

4 words....... ONE BIG RIP OFF, we have been getting ripped off for years now compared to other states, I hope they don't sell!

I have to agree. Fair enough charging those who want vanity plates but why should I have to pay when someone random out there can get lucky with a letter/number combination I want and not have to pay every year?

VicPlates has come out with a US sized no. plate, I think it even has stars and stripes design. My guess is as soon as SlyPlates finds out about it they'll cash in on the opportunity.

I suspect that the obvious ones, such as those relating to cubic inches, will go fast and will be chased by owners of all marques, not just Vettes.
