Title: Leadfoot Challenge 2011
Post by: Camo on July 09, 2011, 09:57:52 AM
Just in from VETTENUT........

Well the Corvette Leadfoot Challenge weekend is back again in 2011 and this year is back at the famous Winton Raceway.

For those looking for a marvellous weekend encompassing everything about why it’s great to own a Vette (or any automotive branded toy) – then here it is!  The Leadfoot Challenge weekend started a long way back as a friendly fun weekend between the Corvettes of Canberra and Corvettes of Melbourne car clubs.  This has now grown to be a huge, fun weekend with cars coming from as far as Queensland and people all the way from WA to spectate.

We start off with a nice cruise to Wangaratta to check in to one of the nominated motels.  After this a few drinks may be consumed during a night of catching up with old friends and making new ones!  Then dawn breaks on Saturday morning and the rustle of drivers and passengers getting ready to head to the famous Winton Motor Raceway is heard.  We travel in convoy to the track for a day of fun and entertainment and the chance to try out your toy on a safe environment without the flashing lights, up to a speed where you feel comfortable.  The Leadfoot Challenge is an inter club challenge of our Vettes for the legendary Leadfoot Perpetual Trophy!  The fastest few Vettes from each club have their times averaged and then this averaged times determine the winning club - so if you don’t want to go flat out, you don’t have to.  It’s primarily about having fun and feeling comfortable in a safe environment.   The day includes laps against the clock in the morning with only a ! few cars on the track at any one time and each car started off at timed intervals to try and keep them separated from each other.  In the afternoon we mix things up with a few other challenging events including autokhana, drags and go-to-whoa events.   After the day is done at the track, we head back to Wangaratta for a presentation dinner and a night of relaxing whilst telling tall tales of the days adventures, before cruising home on the Sunday.  Don’t miss out on this huge and fun filled event!

Attached you will find an event summary, itinerary, hotel information and an entry form.  This year we are expanding to be across 3 motels and I know people are already starting to book, so be quick and get in now to ensure you don’t miss out on a room.  The track is booked for Saturday 22nd October 2011 & the presentation dinner is that night.   This event! is open to non Corvettes as well to help meet the numbers and cover the costs, as track days are getting dearer and dearer due to track insurance costs.  Corvettes will run in separate track groups to the non-Corvettes as done in all past years.  So bring your friends for the weekend and have a ball!

:drag: Attention all Corvette leadfoots!!

Our Victorian cousins who were already nervous about this year's coming event, after we gave them a driving lesson last year, are getting a bit worried about the low entry numbers received for Winton.
Come on you guys, dust off the cheque books and get your entries off to Darren asap, so we can continue this annual tradition.
So far we only have Shane Finn, Bob Lynn and myself entered.
:call:Let Darren or myself know if you need more details, otherwise please send off your entry.

We are booked into the Warby Lodge.

We now have Shane, Harry, DR, Bob, Ray MY081, and 72vet?

Shane and I are going down Thursday early to get some track time on Friday morning.

I like that automatic bonnet opening  to let the heat out .

I have not seen that option on a on a forward opening bonnet before.
those old fashion Pin and clip would fix that
I think as per 72 vet if the memory serves me correctly

Just received from Darren of Corvettes of Melbourne via VETTENUT

Hi all,

Well it is only a few days away until the 2011 Corvette Leadfoot Challenge kicks off and I am sure you are all excited!  Just a quick reminder on a few details:

 - We will be scrutineering as many vehicles as possible Friday afternoon/evening
 - Reminder you need a fire extinguisher (Bunnings, Mitre10, etc can help you cheaply)
 - Drivers licence or legal ID plus CAMS licence and/or Winton/Wakefield licence (last years Leadfoot one will not have expired yet) else you can purchase one on the day
 - Drivers will be required to wear suitable non-flammable clothing covering all limbs, closed shoes (ideally leather), a helmet complying with the Australian Standard (e.g. AS 1698)

Convoys from Melbourne:
 - Melbourne participants will be departing from the Shell Roadhouse DonnyBrook at the junction of the Hume Fwy and Donnybrook Road, Donnybrook.
 - 1st convoy with Webby meeting at 10am for a 10.30am departure and the second convoy with Darren meeting at 1.00pm for a 1.30pm departure, otherwise cruise up at your own leasure.

Driving up Saturday?
 - If you are driving up Saturday, please note the gates open at 8am and the drivers briefing will be at 9am, so you MUST arrive before 9am for the drivers briefing, as otherwise they won't let you on the track if you miss it.

Any other questions, just let me know.

See you Friday or Saturday,
Darren.

It looks like six of us are coming from Canberra, this includes a couple of non Corvette guys that usually join us with their beasts.
Boshie won't be joining us as he apparently has a very important tea party he has to attend.:lmao:

Sorry folks, we did not take quite enough ammunition to beat the hoards of Mexicans who stormed the Winton Raceway on saturday!

We were only beaten by a narrow margin, but could not hang onto the Leadfoot Trophy.

NSW Corvettes finished close runners up to Corvettes of Melbourne, and finished ahead of Corvettes of Canberra and Vicvettes.

The killer custard took 2nd place in the track sprints event for 'Vettes on road tyres, with Shane Zedohsix Finn third.
Andy 69DR took runner up in the go-to-whoa, and the killer custard with yours truly left with 1st place in the slalom event:ado:

A great weekend was had by all, and many thanks go to our hosts Corvettes of Melbourne for their hospitality.

My highlight of the weekend was passing the Corvette Clinic's C6 ZR1:hammer:

Next year the event returns to Wakefield Park, so planning for revenge starts soon with hopefully a larger representation from NSW members to bring back the trophy!!

Andy andy andy braking way to early, turn in to late and way to late on the loud pedal and its definately to stiff in the rear you should be able to smash your current lap times.
I am taking up the race car to wakefield on the 30th November come up and we can get the car /driver working better.

yeah I was a bit scared of the walls!!! Plus (I dont want to make it sound like any excuse but) I was feeling a bit sick on the day, I've had a stomach bug which comes and goes the last few weeks and really held me back due to lack of concentration/dizzyness! But I will come back with vengence! I actually did do a few good laps in the morning before I felt sick but didnt roll the cam!:drag: and the 30th sounds good depending on work! I was thinking of buyin a sh*tbox just to learn the moves but thats a maybe????
