Title: A bit of an engine knock
Post by: Camo on June 14, 2011, 12:02:52 PM
I was trawling the sites when I came across this.  I wont bore you with the details but the long and short of it is that this chap bought a diesel van off of eBay.

It had two so called small issues.

1) It was sluggish and he thought it may be the fuel pump
2) It had a bit of an engine knock but one of his mates said that it sounded normal for a diesel

He had the sump taken off so he could have a look.  Scroll down.........

Thank God for sump pans or he would've lost all of those parts!

MMM a good diesel mechanic would have pick this problem

Hint
when an engine is knocking
open the oil filter  to see whats in there

use a fitter cutter, not a hacksaw

looking at the photo can you tell what happened first.

Note that the piston is destroyed
