Even on one of these old things.:22

-
aye they look phat.
but the problem is, they get dirty real easy due to their matt surface.
-
bob, I reckon they'd look really awsome on yours and maybe a genuine GM satin finish might look better than matt??????
-
matt looks more "ITS ALL ABOUT THE ENGINE BABY"-ish :22
-
Well I'm just finishing off the LH side now at this very minute and black they will be. They've been awkward to say the least and the other side ain't gonna be any easier.:b2
-
Would be better if they were chromed, or stainless. Yes a real head turner.
-
Here is one (almost) finished sidepipe. It took a bit of fiddly work to get the rear outlet angle right, but so far I like the results.

Now that's what I call a mean set of pipes.
You are not helping my problem by showing me the photos, Oh, what a cruel world.:ado

Then I'd better not show you any pics of my rear end........the Vette's that is.:22

A little while ago I saw some photos of you motor, my wife happened to walk into my computer room and was wondering why I kept say," This can'nt be real"
She said "There there dear you just have to wait" ;37
-
That dirty old thing. You should see what I've been doing to it lately!:b2 It's still a bit grotty here, but this pic is more to show the front spreader bar I've built.

Those sidepipes look phat Brutus.
Not wanting to go off topic but - I noticed a slight improvement with the top off with a spreader bar on my C4 - I'd be interested to see if you find any difference with yours.
-
Andrew...Hopefully with the slightly better geometry and sturdier construction that I've designed into mine, it'll demonstrate some benefit when it's all up and running.
-
considering we are talking about side pipes
is it possible to put mufflers on them? Cause I don't think mine are legal in aus :(
the thing is though, they are originals, and the car is 34yrs old...
Any input is helpful ;laugh

Nik...Here are the "mufflers" I've put into my side pipes. They're called Spiral turbo baffles.

For a good deal go to the C3 Shark Tank by clicking on the link in my sig then go to the Shark store. It's all there and more.

you just made my day!
:22:22:22:22:22:22

hmm
upon further research @ corvette action center, I found out that the original pipes are not servicable?
that be bad... wonder how else I could go about it.
-
Is it just the side pipes themselves that are knackered or the extractors as well?
-
nothing is knackered
the cam is a sports cam, makes it louder :evil
I believe that original pipes are non-servicable =\
might have to look into it further... could be quite a spot of bother though.
-
Ok I just read your posts in the CAC so I can now presume you have the original chambered exhausts which as you have discovered are non-servicable and the cost of replacements are quite high I believe. So there's not much I can recommend other than changing over to Hookers and keeping your originals as original items to be tucked away until you want to sell.
-
aye
could be a problem,
we shall see I guess... hookers would probably be louder D:
might have to change back to the original cam... I've searched the RTA website, and can't seem to find the noise pollution limit... I *HOPE* that my car is in the acceptable limits...
wonder if i could pass off the car as original and not have to get the sound level reduced...
-
I've heard that if they are original equipment on the vehicle that it is allowed. One of our members has an original 63 with side pipes, thats loud also.It passed the blue slip process so I assume its OK.All original side pipes are LOUD because they are only chambered. I LUUUV loud NOISES (as in exhaust!). Some people say its to noisey and that you cant hear the stereo or the Misses! So wheres the problem!!!!!! Brutus I too am thinkin of sidepipes. I dont know if I want satin black or chrome, its a very hard decision.:luv Hey NIK did the NCRS bloke have an explaination for the flares being original, did you ask him.I am interested to know why he says they are original factory flares?
-
bahahhahaha @ no hearing thing
yeah I can't hear a stereo over the exhaust, no way. I don't believe the best equipment could be heard legally.
re fenders: he left an article with me... ill scan it and upload it to my website.
just to fix up an issue though, he didn't actually say factory installed as I had perceived... I got the car delivered yesterday :D anyway, the way it worked was: many vettes were delivered to the shop with the flares as an added extra - ie. bundled up in the back of the car. Not actually installed, but able to be installed. Many dealers kept them and sold them seperately, many also bundled them with the car as initially intended. Some dealers installed them at the shop.
We believe that the car is original to the extent that the flares are original 1969 manufactured. We have no way of telling, but judging by the way the previous owner to Tom (the NCRS guy) had retained the car, the paint being the only thing not original (its a more metallic blue than the original paler colour blue), then it could be a pretty good assumption. Its one of those things we will never really know. I can allways say it, and people can't prove me wrong, but I can't prove myself right either. ;-)
The flares were released with cars from very late model 1969's (my car is a november car) to I think mid 73. I can't remember, but its in that article. I will have to get it scanned.
I even have the original radio in the car, and the clock, though I don't believe the clock is working (will get that fixed as opposed to replaced) and he hasn't heard the radio working since he put the new cam in cause the exhaust is so bloody loud :D so we don't know if that is working. Might see if I can get it refurbished though as thats pretty wicked.
There isn't anything in the car which isn't original or atleast, able to be replaced by the originals sitting in my garage :)
-
here is that article :)

As I've been informed Nik, you should be able to see the part numbers on the inside of the flares still to prove their originality, but again as you say.......who cares? They look great as is no matter what. Flares are definitely on my agenda whether I buy them pre-made or make my own.
-
69DIRTYRAT,
From my understanding, when the sidepipes (from a 65 car I think) were fitted to the car in question I think some sort of additional muffling was incorporated - perhaps we can find out more at FOX...
nic, if you ever need to look into replacement parts I have looked into costings for OEM sidepipes and parts and have to agree that they are far from cheap. ;eek
I think getting around the blue slip process is the biggest concern for nic. I honestly believe that once you get a car with OEM sidepipes through the Blue slip process (whichever way you do), I doubt you would ever get pulled up for having them on your car unless it was by a really overzealous law enforcement type.

Heaven forbid that there are any officers of the law out there like that! Especially after I get my own sidepipes up and running.

this is what she sounds like

oh my...

Mine's up and running again now, but still only has one sidepipe on tho. Getting the other side extractors altered tomorrow. Looks and sounds great too especially with the new baffles.
