hi all, im going beirut, stockholm, new jersey, LA, leaving 20 august. my us stop is only 2 look 4 a 95/96 c4 convert. manual. now, what should i watch out 4 when buying one there, what forms or documents need i take with me, what roughly am i looking at for shipping, agents, and TAX, what other hidden fees, do i have 2 c someone to convert steering and obtain any documents before i go???
can i be blunt....
Australian Customs thru DOTARS will not enable you to import a C4 into Australia built after Jan 89 because you will be subject to RAWS and no workshop has been RAWS acredited to convert a C4 Corvette.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.....
Go for a C5 or a pre 89 C4. :-)
there are lots of posts on this site which will advise you of the pitfalls.
sad but true the last i heard.....dan is correct....
Thanks guys, daniel, now i know what u mean. so my other options are to either buy one previously converted here, or buy a c5 as u mentioned. so a c5 is not any trouble to bring back and convert?? costs, any rough ideas ??
Yes that's basically it.... all those options are available to you.
A C5 will cost you $35,000 to convert but you also have all the costs associated with importing ... import duties, GST, shipping costs, transportation, and time (set aside 6 mths of your life). Having gone thru the process of importing, i'd think twice about doing it again but rather i'd buy a copy of Unique Cars or Just Cars at the newsagent and buy a car ready to drive. An acceptable car may not present itself right away but sooner or later one will come up.

ok....thank u all, been great help. looks like im going through the US window shopping 4 a vet... i'll stick to my 87 4 now, and like u said, buying one here might be the better option..
new idea, whats the go with importing a 1968-69. obviously no need 4 dash conversion, what else involved in taxes, shipping etc.... ??
heaps of people are doing it now......best to talk to an importer.....they can take care of everything so all you do is pay a bill..... some will even deliver to your door....u2u me if you would like the name of a good friend who brings in some big doller cars.....
hi all , just got back from the states, bought a 1968 manual red convertible, i guess when it gets here it will be on the next run , cant wait...
:ado Welcome to the C3 club 87 Droptop, any pictures of your new ride?
should have taken some while i was there...actually not a bad looking car at all, now the long wait to get the car here starts......
