Title: C3 seat rails
Post by: 77CVT on April 23, 2008, 04:08:22 PM
Are there different lengths of seat rails between early and late C3's?

The rails for my 71 don't line up with the factory holes.  :p

Chromie may be able to help with that question.

I think I can modify the ones I have.

I measured a 69 and the holes were 41cm apart - mine are 51cm.

I have a feeling they changed mid 70's.

Hi 77CVT;ay
I know for sure that 1968-76 have the same bolt pattern
I am reasonably sure that 1977-82 are also the same
GM wasn't known for always changing things between models
Measure your bolt pattern on your floor and post it so we have something tangeable to check with on other Corvettes for you.;27

Yeah, not sure what's the go with these rails.  The bolt holes in my floor are the same disatance etc as the 69 I measured, but the rails were different between the two cars, mine being 4 inches longer (at the rear I think).

The seats I have are the ones with the lap sash through the slot in the seat  so I think they are right for the year.

If I can't improvise I'll just get new rails!  I think a few people have had a chop at this car.  ;-)

:x

I fitted 81 seats to my 78 the right hand seat bolted straight in left hand seat had to use top half of  of 81 runner & bottom half of 78 runner so I didnt have to redrill floor, also the pitch of the teeth for seat adjuster was different. Also had to cut & shut the adjuster arm.Took half a day to sort  out a pair of runners for left hand seat.

Yeah, go figure.  I'll have a chop at them this weekend.

Chromie - got any "normal" C3 rails in case I accidently smash it to pieces?  :24

Hi 77CVT;ay
Yep I have a second hand set of seat tracks off a 1970 or 71 vette;27
I don't know how much they are at this point as I have not received the paper work from the USA yet.;30
I would recommend modifing the seat tracks and not the floor pan
Just make an adaptor plate, the plate bolts to the floor and the seat track bolts to the plate.

I was going to drill out the rivets on the back part and reattach them in the proper position.  It's still got me beat why they are different!
