I'm in.

I guess for those travelling northward, the meeting spot will be Thornleigh Maccas as usual?

;42I think to go to Newcastle for breaky only is to far why not lunch instead and a cruise afterwards ?

^ I prefer the early start -- little or no traffic on the F3 makes for a better run, IMO.

We could hang around for lunch (or make it brunch) and a cruise too, I guess.

I have updated this information to cater for all that wish to attend.

Those that wish to have breakfast, parking will be arranged shortly and information supplied via this thread or via phone calls.

Those that wish to have lunch parking will be in the same location as the breakfast people and, as above, information supplied via this thread.

Those like myself that will be at breakfast and lunch, parking will be available as well.

Any questions please call Rusty: 0439 870 830

A Link to the "WHEREIS (http://beta.whereis.com/nsw/newcastle_east/bond_st?id=38108B033D5848)" map for this event.

I am speaking to Newcastle Council to arrange a Half Road Closure for our cars to be parked all in one location, right next to the harbour. The cost of this closure is $40 for the day and I am sure it will be worth it.

Basically, our parking area will be the first turn left after the Watt Street and Wharf Road round-about.

If you arrive along Watt St. you turn right around the round-about then take the first left along the harbour.

If you arrive along Wharf Rd. go straight through the round-about then take the first left along the harbour.

That beta version of Whereis locks up my PC. ;47

$40 to close half a road all day sounds pretty cheap, or is that $40 each?

$40 flat for half the road.

Mind you I am not really closing half the road as the place I want to close off is not really a through road. But some of the locals use it like that sometimes......;45

I received word this morning that our Half Road Closure has been approved by Newcastle Council.

Barriers will be up on both ends of our parking area to stop other vehicles from entering.

I am hoping to be able to fill this with Corvettes. It is about 80m long and two lanes wide.

The wharf is a good spot to kick back so bring your sunscreen & cool looks

Five Vettes departed Thronleigh Maccas at 7.15am and headed into the thick early morning fog along the F3 that lifted magically around Mt White. The rest of the run to Newcastle was in sunshine as we diverted via beautiful Swansea (and a few miscellaneous suburbs thanks to a haywire GPS unit, LOL!), reaching Nobby’s Beach at around 8.45am.

Nobby’s Beach was where the Pasha Bulker famously ran aground in June last year.

Around 16 Vettes were in attendance. Rusty had arranged blocked off parking along the promenade, which provided a show for the local Sunday strollers-by as, meanwhile, we ate a hearty brunch from the surf club café at picnic tables overlooking the beach.

The weather at Nobby’s was fantastic.

Around midday the intrepid 5 set off in the sun for the return leg to Sydney only to be greeted about half way by a deluge that had the F3 traffic bumper to bumper in sections.

It’s times like that when I wish I’d put the rag top up earlier instead of trying to outrun the rain, but convertible drivers are eternal optimists when it comes to the weather.

Thanks to Rusty for organising the day out and thanks to all the participants. It was great to catch up with our Northern brothers and sisters who don’t get down to see us often enough.

72vet took lots of pictures, so look out for a selection of those in the picture gallery in due course.
