Title: Boschvette update should i chase 500rwhp?
Post by: BOSCHVETTE on December 06, 2007, 08:03:28 AM
Just thought i would bring you all up to date on what has been happening over the last few months.

Work has been a real killer this year and it has left little time for anything else including getting the vette out for a play.

But the real problem has been the two times i have taken it out i have returned it on the back of a trailer.

1st time required a full gearbox rebuild after giving it a boot full on my way to your dyno day.;46

And the 2nd time was on Melbourne Cup day when i took it to wakefield park and snapped a timing chain and bent lifters and push rods.

So at the moment the motor is out and i am at the cross roads of choosing between returning it to the way it was or seeing if i can get a bit more horsepower out of it with a even bigger cam or scrapping the 383 altogether and finish building the 434 cube project small block that i have started but is still a long way off finishing.

the 434 would easily see 500rwhp and that is what i have set my sights on but i just dont know if i want to wait another 6 - 12months to get it back on the road.
So i will be having a good think over the next couple of days on which path i will be taking but either way i need to stop braking things.I hope everyone is well.

cheers boschvette

Just sell the whole lot off and buy a Suzuki Mightyboy, they are more reliable. You can take it out on the next track day and scream past all the broken down Vettes.

I know it's more money and it won't work readily with your intake but if I was going to go 434 and would even consider looking at 18 degree heads...  If you want to go chasing LS7's I don't think you have any other options if you want to stick with the "Old school" non LS-X Chevy V8 design - unless you want even more cubes or radical heads.

Bottom line is whether you want to go and spend the money and time getting set up to make the driveline handle all the grunt to take that 434 motor as well as building the motor itself.

Keep in mind that I'm confident you could do even better with more work on developing what you already have.  Also keep in mind with regards to outright speed that alot of the "quick" cars around are within striking distance of anyone who can put together a well rounded and sorted combination.  For all the big power cars we have in our community there are only four that have cracked proven sub 12 second times that I know of...  Which puts things into perspective for me.

So what you're trying to say Andy is that it's not how big it is but it's what you can do with it that counts.

VO
I wont change to 18 degree heads as i love my intake to much and if i was going to go down that path i would just buy a sprintcar 700hp motor and pull out a little compression.

Hi Boschie, I would agree with what you said in buying a 700 hp motor.  As andrew has then said which is correct you will then start to break other areas of the car.
I guess it boils down to how much money you want to throw at it.
Good luck with whatever way you go.

The 434 in 6 to 12 months!!??

Mate you don't want to go through all that again do you??

Just buy one of these, put that fancy smancy intake of yours on it and you'll be good to go by the end of the chrissy holidays.
