Very nice car, but there are some who would say to steer clear of Cross Fire Injection. I don't know enough about them to offer an opinion tho there must be a reason why they are lovingly called "Crap Fire ".

From my understanding I don't think there is anything particularly wrong with the cross fire motors.  I think the main problem people have is getting them to make much more power and that they don't put out all that much power in stock form (no offense to any cross fire owners out there).

In the case of C4's Tuned Port motors are much easier to get more power out of and aftermarket parts are much more readily available when compared to cross fires.

VO...your right there, but also the fact that they're aren't many hot up parts for the X fire also makes them limited in the eyes of some.

It looks like a nice car to me, what C3 doesn't need something really.

Now, just offering an opinion here.  If I were to buy another C3 in the 73-82 range my choice would be the 1980.  Why?  Last year with no computerized crap on it, available with a 4-speed (yes I know 81's had them).  But, not having the computer on the car makes things easier to work on when it needs to be fixed IMO, and one less part to fix when it fries.  Just thinking out loud.

hmm, well, thats an interesting thought that ive also been thinking about a lot lately... I really want a car with the minimum computer crap inside it to make it easier to fix up in the future :)

allways wanted to know what the last year of non-computerisation was.

Nik,

Also keep in mind the reason I made that comment was that I took into consideration what it costs you guys to buy one here, then import it, convert to RHD, and keep within your laws.  I've had many talks with Brutus about how regulated the laws are concerning cars.  Now on the other hand if money is not a concern, the computer really doesn't matter as the 81-82 computer was really basic and unlike the ones cars have today.  Also, if you plan to modify the car like I did and drop in a 383 stroker motor, 700r4 tranny etc then the computer becomes just another part to rip out and toss into a box in the garage.

Decisions, decisions :22

Also if a new motor and trans are in the car's future you'd be far better off doing it there as opposed to here. Then the car can be imported "as is" thus negating any further expense once over here as well as any engineering hassles from our beloved RTA officials.

U should know that 3221 1980 cars HAD computers- they were even more basic than the 1981. These were the californian 305's. I don't know how much of a put off that is. I still dont know wheather my computer works or not and dont really care becoz the rest of the car works.
The limited stuff I have read about it is if start disconnecting the EGR and other computer related stuff it will result in a rich condition which is rectified by re-jetting.

I understand that the californian  computer was because of emission control...

i don't really plan on getting a californian vette... just doesn't tickle my fancy.

Another one of those quirky little Californian "options" is that the heater blower fan is ALWAYS on from the time the ignition is engaged. :b2

That's also why you'll always find one connection unhooked in my engine bay. It's like having an electric fuel pump in front of the car.
