Title: Power windows

Both my windows have failed to work, first the pasanger side now the drivers side. can any one give me some advice, or is there a way to at least get them up manualy.

could it be a fuse??

why would both stop working like that?

I'd check the fuse first, then the switch with a test light.

Hmmm.  Not sure on C4's, but under the centre console in C3's there is a relay that powers up once the ignition is on.  This realy then allows power to the switches for the windows.  If you have this relay you can here it click in when the key is turned to ignition.  Just a thought.  

As I said I'm not sure if this is in a C4.

Can you hear the window motor working while you operate the switch?

Early C4s have a power window ribbon made from plastic. after 15 or so years this ribbon becomes brittle and breaks.  Replacements are around US$20.

It is also common for switches to fail.  They're around US$6.

Bugger me, didn't they change alot from C3's to C4's.  Does that ribbon replace the whole mechanical actuator that's in the C3's?  I mean does it actually lift the glass up and down?

I fixed it.
Spent all day checking the fuse testing swiches and ground, pull all sorts of thing apart to finaly find out that the conector to the motor had come lose (strange that they both had, all i can put it down to is from when i had it resprayed).

It all ways good went a repair job dosn't cost you. now just have to put evry thing back.

Not only did it cost you nothing, you got an afternoon of enjoyment too.

Actually, I suspect statistically panel beaters are right up there when it comes creating electrical problems in the cars they 'fix'.
