For anyone interested in "big block" capacity small block chevs, check out http://www.theengineshop.com/
They have350ci, 415ci, 427ci right up to 600hp 454ci SMALL block chevs for around US10grand...
(referred to as RATPACK eaters!);41
-these are the engines ROCKET Ind import.

Is that about $20k landed here?
-
Would it be double? 30% more for currency conversion then freight on top. Companies advertise all inclusive car shipment service from usa for $2,990, so an engine has gotta be less than that... 69DR would be the man to ask!
Alternatively ROCKET would have the landed prices (with their cut on top of course)
-
US$11 500 posted / .7 = $16k + customs + gst.
If rocket sells 'em for less than $18k buy one there.
Pretty reasonable considering it would cost close to that in parts if you built it yourself.

Thats why i put the link up;) Its still a lot of money but if someone was building an animal SBC, they could easily spend more than that, and not have 454ci and 600 reliable hp on pump gas!
-
I know I am on the right forum when guys are talking about $20,000-ish engine combos being "reasonably priced". ;41 ;27
I think there is a self-help group for people like us...;41 If we could all afford to indulge ourselves in terms of what mods we wanted to do to our cars we would all be in trouble...;41

Am I the only sicko here who has wondered "I wonder what you would get if you dropped the compression on that and fitted a blower?".

Definitely not! ;-)
I think it is reasonably priced but I am still too much of a tighta*se to buy one.
-
How many times have I posted threads about these Mighty Mouse engines!...I keep trying to tell you this but nobody listens!!!!!! My engine landed costs about $22000OZ, which sounds like alot but I'm getting a hell of a lot of engine for that! Its worth twice that price! Those small blocks are a bargain, I dont know why nobody has bought one yet! Dont forget they come with a 2 YEAR GUARINTEE!!!!

Some of us have but had it custome built. You'll know what I'm talking about soon. [$16,000]

I'd still go your route Cameron and go "custom". (Not that there is anything wrong with those motors by any stretch of the imagination).
-
I agree. I think they are a good motor but I just wanted that little more.....um.....precission, for want of a better word. I know EXACTLY whats in her and it is was done knowing what I'm going to do it in the future.
But for what I would assume to be a hassel free option, I think they are a great motor. [So I've been told]
-
if i had a small block i would go down that route

You do, remember - you just don't drive it.
-
i just got my motor back from Come Engines in Melbourne and would definately recommend them to anyone.
-
I reckon C.O.M.E engines are probably the best horsepower for money packages available. When i lived in Melbourne i loved watching them race and checked out their shop a few times. 1st class. I think you will be wrapped with how she performs ;-)

Not meaning to go to far off subject on this thread, are you going to fit out the motor and run it before you fit it into the vette? I would recommend it. Just a thought.
-
The Motor's been fully run in at Come Racing before I even get it back gotta love that, and dyno'd with paper proof of the output.
-
What sort of horsepower are you expecting?

Thats why I did the engine last.
Custom 9" Diff, Billet 35 Spline Axles, Detroit Locker...plus a lot of other goodies, Chrome Moly 2 Piece Tail shaft...
Everything in my drive line is over engineered for what I have in the engine bay now...but will be suited to the next power plant.....
Build it once, Build it properly....Cheaper in the long run...even if it looks like a lot of cash now....
Gas
-
just over 400 on pulp
-
GAS455 where did you det the tail shaft & how much?
-
Are you sitting down....
I got it made in QLD with custom centre bearing from the guy who makes the driveshafts for the V8 Supercars.
I can't remember the name of the place....I will have a think about it..
It cost me just over $2,000:}
Built to handle well over 1200HP....Plus the Torque of a big cube Pontiac engine...
;35
I would say a one piece without the centre bearing would be a lot cheaper....but I had to go that way with my chassis..
-
Build it right and build it once. It's a lot cheaper (and safer) in the long run - especially when you consider what catastrophic damage a broken shaft can cause.
-
Rare Spares at Homebush have a Hardcore 454 on the floor
$18,000
-
Well whats it doing on the floor, hurry up somebody and buy it!
-
That was a Hardcore 454 small block!
