Hi guys,
Just purchased 1972 model...love the look of the side exhaust pipe..Do you know where i could get them in Australia? are they legal on the road? thanks
-
I may stand corrected here, but I think the 69 model was the only C3 fitted with factory sidepipes. Having said that tho, I put a set on my 77 and to date have had no problem with legality......meaning I haven't been pulled over by the lads in blue because of them.........yet!
My 64 has them as well and I don't think that model C2 had them either, but that one isn't on the road yet.
I imported the "headers" for the 77, but had the sidepipes made up.
I will be making new baffles for the 64's pipes so if you want a set of sidepipe mufflers in good condition you are welcome to them if you remove them yourself.

There is a place at Kirrawee that imports Hooker pipes and fits em. One of our members had it done there they look great!. But I've forgotton the name ....Red Rocket ..are U out there, can you help,do you remember the name of the place?
-
do u know what they charge
is there any one else how makes them or imports them as i woukd like to look at prices
-
I forget the guys name who got it done.He lives over southern side ( tweety bird 69 yellow 350) and apparently only paid around $1500????

I saw the sidepipes done to Peter E's old Vette and while they looked all nice and neat coming out the side of the car, they ended up all uneven from the engine to the outside pipes. In other words they didn't do sh#t for the performance of the engine. I believe they were made from someone around Warrick Farm.

If I recall correctly the person who bought Pete's 74 had the sidepipes done by Hume mufflers in Warwick Farm.
Having said that, I would assume that the setup of the pipes between the engine and sidepipes would have been the decision of the person paying for the job (not that I have seen anything except the sidepipes on the car themselves).

The ones I'm talkin about are on a 70' 350, he was at Cronulla show last year, they looked great!

Yes you're right about where he had them done Andrew. I spoke to the guy at the Fox studio's show a few years ago and he didn't appear to have enough mechanical knowledge to have been able to make a decision as to how he wanted the pipes to be. I quizzed him particularly about them as I was interested in getting sidepipes for my own car.
All I could gather from what he said, was that the sidepipe extractors were built the way they were because that's how the builder decided to do them and for the amount he paid at the time (over $2.500), I would be less than happy with the "finished" product.

Don't buy fake Hooker Headers Brutus is spot on about the performance specs if it's a backyard job, I bought the real thing from the US through Jet Hot. Cost me $3200 AU to my door and they have a ceramic clear coating as well. I have a 72 as well 350 small block.
todd@jet-hot.com
Todd was great for service he even sent a cheque for 100 buck's 1 month after I got the pipe's saying that Fed EX overcharged him so he passed on the discount to me.
WHO DOES THAT ?
The finish is excellent,

I've heard, however that if a mirror conversion is done then the factory headers won't fit since the engine is offset to the other (l/h) side. Makes sense to me but i stand to be corrected!

Yes you can only put hookers from engine outward on LHD or you will have fitting issues! OR maybe SB's can get away with it?, I know with a BB you will have trouble!

I had my Hookers modified on the RH side by Australia's Best at Lakemba. Ask for Chris.

Luckily my car is staying LHD so it was not an issue other than it is a damn tight fit.
