The club received its own copy of this letter today as well. The first stars and stripes one looks quite good and reads "American Muscle" along the red section

Yeah, they would suit US cars much better.

Still considering if it's worth the outlay, dunno if I can get them as I have AA.11.AA plates.

True.

It's not the money, I don't like what MyPlates are doing, when the RTA were in control, to get your own ABC-123 combination, it was a one off fee.  MyPlates (private company) took over and now charge annual fees for them.  Luckily I got mine before MyPlates but let's say they get damaged and I want to replace them with the same combination, I will then have to start paying annual fees on the new plates.  :grr:

There's another mob creating aluminium custom plates, they're not legal but they charge $25 so to charge $295 or even $195 - somebody's being taken for a ride.

I have 427 VET black and white plates that i waited 4 hrs on the phone for when numbers first came out. I ordered a set of stars and stripes for $195 and get to keep 427 VET. they print them on the new plates, I hand back in my black and white plates, and get the new stars and strips plates.

I think the usa style plates will suite my car much much better. and fit in the hole, and, you can have one of those cool USA made number plate surrounds that will fit.

same yearly fee, just a  1 off fee of $195. as the add says, get in before dec 31 before the price goes up $100!

I dodnt know what the fuss about expense is, sh!t, if you can afford to own and maintain a corvette, $195 is nothing!! I hate paying over $1000 a year for rego. but, i wont complain too much, i dont want club plates

well as i said, $195 is nothing , i just spent 25k restoring my car , not including paint. Take a good look at the plates. they look great and you get 3 choices. everyone is different, so it doesnt matter about the $$$ , cant take it with u.

Im the type of guy that if i want or like somthing, I am fortunate enough to be able to afford it anyway, and i will just go and buy it.

Really p#isses my wife off though, as everything that she finds to buy me for christmas or my birthday, I already have!!! lol!!

Its only money, if you dont want to spend the money on the plates, give $195 to the Sydney city Mission and give some one else a christmas gift

I wil post as soon as they arrive in Feb. If your plates dont fit 100%, mine didnt either, so i made a small couple aluminium brackets and it fitted the car perfect. The Black and white plates will always look great on your car if you fit them right

I sold one of my motor cycles last year and forgot to take the plates off!! they were bought before yearly charges (which is a f$%kin rip off) and now ...... DR 007 is GONE!!

Ye the grass is greener somewhere else
I only wish they had this first issue as a oncer
pay the dues and free after that,, no yearly fees
as with my current black and whites
I could not trade free for pay but if I had "that car"
more options available is a forward move

Similar situation in QLD where you pay (IIRC) a one time fee of $2,000 and they're yours for life.

The NSW government, RMS and its outsourced supplier only get away with charging exorbitant fees because people will pay them. If they didn't the prices would have to drop.

There'll be an initial surge for these plates but I can't see the demand to keep going as strong as their other stock.  The price could stabilise to something more reasonable, either that or they'll discontinue them.
