Title: New Forum Software Installed
Post by: Camo on October 04, 2012, 10:15:19 AM
G'day lads and ladets.

Within the next few days, possibly tonight 04/10/12 depending on work load, we are installing new software for the forum.  During the installation the forum will be turned off.  Should only be for a few hours.

Thanks Lads :thumb:

There is a new location field and a new custom field in your profile settings that you can fill in if you wish.  Look at my avatar and you will see where they will appear.

There is also a setting in your profile where you can also set you menu's in your profile to appear as a side bar rather than a drop down

Ahhhhh sh#t!  We have to remove the size in the image tags.  The new software uses a different code.

In the future you will not have to put the size in as the new software will automatically resize the images.

Back in six hours when i finish :banghead:

If it's only removing the size in the image tags I can do it later when I get time.

Cool :thumb:

I did the last page too

All you have to do is change it from this:
Code: [Select]
[IMG=700x525]http://i1233.photobucket.com/albums/ff391/wabco40/IMG_5290.jpg[/IMG]
to this

Code: [Select]
[IMG]http://i1233.photobucket.com/albums/ff391/wabco40/IMG_5290.jpg[/IMG]
And the system will automatically then put in it's own code when you post it :hi:

Maybe change the default colour scheme to at least make them a little different.

We'll play with themes further down the track once we get it all running smooth.  Might change MOCA'S to pink.  Look after that site too

Not real keen on the automatic thread subscription feature. I guess the awkward "Unnotify" means Unsubscribe? Woulds suggest using SUBSCRIBE and UNSUBSCRIBE instead.

I couldn't use my old password? I had to get sent a link to a new password, has anyone else had a problem? Could be because the old one was only 5 letters and not the new 8? Some less computer illiterates may have a problem working it out?

Not real keen on the automatic thread subscription feature.

It's common on just about every forum out there and I like it but I believe you can tick a box in your profile settings so you don't get automatically subscribed.

I just noticed when I post a reply, when it directs to my post the opening page goes to my signature so I have to scroll up to proof read what I just posted.

Any chance you can change it so the opening page opens at the top of the post?

Yes, I'm aware of it on other forums and I usually turn it off (get enough emails already), but there isn't an account setting on here that I can find.

Where is that?

Under Profile I get a drop down box with a list of these 3 items:

Summary
Account Settings
Forum Profile

... and I see no mention of notifications in any of those views.

Hit summary, then beside Profile Info, hover over Modify Profile for the drop down list.

Sorry lads, was watching Bathurst  :drag:

Profile/modify profile/looks & layout.  Tick the "use side bar" box/ save

The side bar is so much better as all is shown at once rather than having to hover over the drop downs

If any of you guys get stuck, just let me know and I'll do it for you :hi:

You still had two subscriptions active.  They were show down the very bottom of your notifications section. I have now removed them so you shouldn't get any more notifications.

When you next post use the reply button instead of the quick reply, if you are, and down the bottom of screen you will see  "Attachments and other options". Click on that and just double check that notification switch has turned off.

Ok a little note here.  When you use the smilies on this new software you must have a space in front and after the smilie or what has happened above in your post occurs.

Now go Modify your post and fix it or you wont be allowed to watch Bathurst tomorrow :kickass:

edit

No not the enter button the space bar

PS You did that deliberately didn't you :kickass:

I'll let ya off but only because you're supporting Holden.... go the Dodges :bolt:

What I'm finding is the pages don't centre properly,  I hit reply and the reply box is off the page and I have to scroll up to access it, too many smilies perhaps?

Also when I clicked the link in my email to take it to the next reply after my post in this thread, the page didn't open at the reply after mine like it's supposed to, I had to scroll the page down to read it.

As mentioned previously, when I reply to this, my reply won't be in the centre of the page, I'll have to scroll the page down to see it.

I'm using Chrome but what just happened, when I hit quote it now goes into Quick Reply.

Can I change that back?

Up in the very top right hand corner next to the "NSW Corvettes Unlimited Car Club Inc" there is a white arrow.  This collapses the header.  Default is arrow pointing up.  If it is pointing down that may cause the issue.  I just  tested with it pointing down and had to scroll up a little but not much.

If you don't want the quote to appear in the quick reply, collapse the quick reply first.  If you forget to do so, once it goes into the quick reply, just click the preview button and the preview will show up at the top and the advance reply field will be open underneath

Not much help, most is now working okay, 'modify' still needs adjustment and I don't like this 'quick reply' when I hit 'quote'.

Could be there are too many smilies pushing the reply box down, could we have them to the side or underneath the post button?

Most replies don't have many smilies anyway and only used minimally.

I can put more of the smilies into the "more" window and less on the main window but would like for the clubs committee to be back on deck for me to check with before doing that.  Most are up at Bathurst at the moment.

PS you can turn the quick reply off by default so you have to click it to open.  The setting is in looks and layout in your profile

When I hit 'quote' I get the bottom of the smiles at the bottom of my page so I have to scroll up to type any text into the reply box.

Same thing when I hit 'modify' and my avatar header has disappeared too so it's in its reduced form.

I don't have an advanced reply field.

Yes, I can see Scott's ad as I haven't zapped it (can't zap my own Vette can I?) besides it's the top ads on forums that bug me.

My screen setting is 1280 x 1024.
Title: Re: New Forum Software Installed
Post by: Camo on October 06, 2012, 07:59:30 PM
If your screen width is less than 1280, say for example 1024, then you will have that exact issue.  I just tested it

Industry standard these days is 1280 minimum wide.  If your screen width is set lower then the forum gets narrower and longer.

This would not have been an issue on the old forum as the smilies were on the right of the text field.  Here they are above and we cant change that.

Title: Re: New Forum Software Installed
Post by: Camo on October 06, 2012, 08:00:46 PM
Gees gtc you have exactly the same settings that I do.  I'll have to test in firfox later for ya to see what happens.

Interesting your comment about the top ads.  I may need to come to the next club meeting to discuss.  When new sponsors come on board, we now have the option to put them at the  top or side or bottom.  Trouble with side is that it will narrow the forum even more.

Ok I had to go look on firefox.  I see ya problem.  I'll move some smilies and see.  Sort it out with the committee when they get back

Ok I have reduded the number of smilies to two rows.  The rest appear in a new window if you click the "more" button in the bottom left corner of the smilie field.

If you also collapse the header by clicking the white arrow in the top right corner next to "NSW Corvettes Unlimited Car Club Inc" you should be OK.

This brings us back to as close as possible to the old forum layout.

(Steph I did the same on MOCA)

If your screen width is less than 1280, then sorry you're stuck with scrolling

Title: Re: New Forum Software Installed
Post by: gtc on October 06, 2012, 08:57:28 PM
Yes, that's fixed it -- especially if I hide the top stuff, but in doing that I lose:

Show unread posts since last visit.
Show new replies to your posts.

Can those functions be made buttons in the strip menu (i.e. to the right of Logout)?
Title: Re: New Forum Software Installed
Post by: Camo on October 06, 2012, 09:19:39 PM
Nope, sorry they are stuck where they are. We have no settings to move them

May I suggest that you leave the header expanded so you can utilise those options when you first log in, then when you are ready to start posting collapse the header.

If your screen width is less than 1280

It's 1280 x 800.

Yes it's a bit better with only 2 rows of smilies.

You could choose the most often selected smilies and put them in one row, if this can be done and it's ok with everyone else.

I'm guessing you'd only use this one once per year  :santa:  if at all.

I just noticed I do have the same issue with the MOCA forum.

With other forums however I don't have the issue.
