Marina Blue midyear with rear spoiler moulded into the body.  I was on a bus so didn't get the best look, I think it also had a modified front end.

I know a lot of C2's had C3 type front and rear mods. The number plate would suggest it had a 454 engine.

Spotted around Artarmon freeway just after midday, it headed south and into the harbour tunnel.

Sam Barber's 1963 Grand Sport replica lives in the Chatswood area:

http://northern-district-times.whereilive.com.au/lifestyle/story/fast-and-furious-1/

Sam also has a blue C2 with a 454 in it, so it might have been his that you saw.

It could very well have been, there was no mistaking the number plate, a mixture of numbers and letters for '454'.

Did he have to import the front clip or was it fabricated here?

I don't know about the front clip, but he fitted the hood here. Last time I saw the car (~ 6 months ago or so) he was fitting lenses over the headlights.

I guess he could've just had the side scoops changed from 66 to 63.

Yeah this was a common mod back in the day, they'd remove the pop-up lights and have them permanently visible with either round or square lamps.

Spotted on Hume Hwy north bound between CBTN and the M5/M7 interchange at approx 1625hrs. Red vette rego COD xxF, had those half round tail lights, could not get close enough to pass and see the front - the driver obviously had the cloak of invisibility as he went past two coppers doing ---- well fast, hence why I could not get past. I must say it looked really smooth and sure footed on the Hwy.

From Rouse Hill Courier:

HIGH-SPEED CHASE

A police chase along Windsor Road at Rouse Hill on Sunday resulted in a Chevrolet Corvette and a Subaru being confiscated.

The male drivers, 44, of Londonderry, and 29, of Annangrove, are due to face Windsor Court on December 17 charged with street-racing and driving more than 30km/h over the limit.

Police say they drove at 110km/h in an 80 zone at 12.50am with loud exhausts, when officers gave chase.

A third driver, in a red Lamborghini, also clocked at high speed, was overtaken during the chase.

has good access to rear storage.

Lack of boot and space was a big factor why I went with a 65 fastback Mustang over a C2 Corvette. The rear seat in the 'stang folds down and a trapdoor opens with access to the boot so I can lay my guitar flat; it rests just behind the seat and into the boot, wedged up against the spare.

I do hope to own a late model C1 or C2 one day though.

Yellow C3 (69??  Both of us were going too fast either way to see details, and by the time Megan got the phone out to take a picture, it was already probably near Wollongong) Convertible top down heading Northbound 12:15(ish) on Princes H'way between Albion Park and Wollongong.  There was a lot of finger pointing so I think they spotted us as well, don't know how that works, does that mean I should do my own spotto because we saw a Vette that saw us??

Yep.  Know whats even worse?  we often go to the same cafe most Saturdays with the Vette, and you can guarantee at the very least someone will come up and start chatting bout the car as if you've known them for ages.  If we take Larry the landcruiser no one bar the cafe staff even acknowledge you exist, and yet we're the same friendly people.  Maybe I should get a tshirt made up stating...

My other car is a Corvette

Yes, they draw a lot of attention. Just getting the tank filled can take some time in discussions. But the upside of this is the smiles on people's faces when they see the car.
It's worth it just for that.

Heading up the C/Coast today, had to turn back as after 5 minutes of wipers working with intermittent rain, the wiper door opened and nothing happened .  So dropped into Brooklyn, to grab coffee, and came home via pacific Hway.  Saw a black C3 (maybe that one from around Epping?) 74-76?  only gotta glimpse through traffic, heading North at Roseville.

But isnt that a big block bonnet

It's what they call a 'stinger' hood. You can buy a whole bonnet with scoop moulded into it or you can buy a stinger scoop separately and add it to your regular C2 bonnet.

When I was looking to purchase a C2 I saw a few guys trying to get big block prices for their small block with stinger hoods. They'd eventually lower their prices but I imagine they saw other C2's with the scoop (that were big blocks) and thought their car was worth the same.

I was looking for one around 5 years back and decent C2's in the USA were in the 40-50k range, the big blocks were 80k+ USD

RHD

I guess that adds a premium to it.

Steve,
You have to appreciate the cars that run through that place, they must do good work otherwise I'd don't this they would get to work on those wonderful cars. They had a 50s Ferrari in there a few years ago.
The C2 seems to be getting the full treatment.

Yeah they must have a reputation but I'm sure I've heard one complaint about the place. Could be a one-off and just like anything, check out their work before you invest in them.

I believe the old Australian kit car based on a C3 look.

Indeed, Perrenti kit car's were built on a Holden utility or One-Tonne chassis, and also carried over all the Holden running gear.

Thought it looked a bit different, initially thinking it was one of those weird vettes from the movie days (as in the movie Corvette Summer - featuring Mark Hamill but not in a galaxy far far away)

what was the cost of a similar style C3 corvette in those times to buy and ship to Oz?

Be interesting to know how many were built/registered and how many are still out there.
One of our members had a nickname  "Perrenti Bill", but I would hazzard a guess he no longer has one.

Someone here may better answer that question but in those days American pony cars were scarce on the ground here; they all had to be converted to RHD too.

Be interesting to know how many were built/registered and how many are still out there.

I posted pics of a red one I saw at a Roman's Hot Rod night; thanks to photobucket it's unviewable on this forum.

Yep,you're right. The Perentti was a kit car put onto an HQ.
I contemplated one when I was a kid because the C3's were about twenty/thirty thousand and the kit was something like three thou.
Only thing was, the Perentti was longer and looked a bit odd.
