Title: Look what TRJ has been up to
Post by: Cameron 77C3 on January 21, 2007, 11:53:42 PM
I've been yapping via e-mail with my mate in the states TRJ.  I'm sure you all remember him.

He is just a little excited.  Thouight I'd share the e-mails with you all.

"G'day Cam,

Haven't talked to you for a while, and thought I would update you on the progress with my Corvette. You recall last Summer I purchased a new 2007 C6.  My plans were to add a "Maggie" supercharger to it over our Winter months...well, I thought about it, talked about it, researched the hell out of it, and decided against it.  Yesterday I pulled the trigger and dropped the 50% deposit check to Lingenfelter Performance Engineering for their 427 CID 550/560 N/A package. Signed the contract and faxed it to them, and my car will be picked up early next week by Autobhan Transport for the 3 hour drive down to LPE's facility.

In addition to the 427 big block conversion, they will be installing the Z06 Brake System for me, building up the Trans. & Diff. Dynatech ceramic-coated headers with Corsa Exhaust system, CCW high polished wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport tires. Front: P275/35/ZR 18" and Rear: P345/30/ZR 19"  To accommodate these big rear tires, their installing the Z06 flared rear fenders on the car.  Having some electric Cobalt Blue gauges ( A/F ratio, & fuel press.) put on the pillar. Bilstien Shocks all around.(Stops wheel-hop) Tunnel plate, for additional strength, and heat deflection, and sound and heat insulation put in the rear also.

Of course the car will be professionally tuned for all these changes by the Lingenfelter Engineers. Should end up with about 520 rwhp and 506 rwtq.  I think I will be much better off with a N/A "built" car like this, vs just dropping a SC on top of the motor.  ( I could always drop a SC on top of this 427 at a later date, and just spin around in circles :grr

Well, that's about it, sorry for the length of this, I got carried away. No secret to this, so mention it to anyone you care to. They say that I should have the car back in 4 to 5 weeks.

Best regards,

Ted  (TRJ)

The second e-mail was

"Hi Cam,

Thought you might be interested in what's in the 427 package.

Third e-mail

"Hi Cam,

Short update, here's a pic of the C6 "mouse" just about ready to leave for the "rat" factory!

What do you think of the enclosed "portrait" as a temporary Avatar, till my car returns?  If you agree, would you mind using your Avatar skills and installing it for me? I think I have it resized correctly (?)

Work will begin on the car Monday morning...should be done approx. 3rd or 4th week in Feb.

Thanks much,
Cheers,
Ted  (TRJ)

Thanks Jo,  Hope you and all the gang are well, and have survived the Holiday's. Sorry to have taken up so much of your Forum space with the info on the C6 package that I'm doing. When Cam posts something, he does so in grand fashion..:grr

I've tried to give this a lot of thought before commiting to the package with LPE. Originally, I was just going to drop a Maggie SC on the stock motor and leave it go at that, but after really looking into it, I decided the N/A way would be best. LPE will start work on the car Monday morning, and has promised to keep me updated with emails and pics as it  progresses, which I'll relay to this Forum, for those who might be interested.  Best regards, TRJ..;42

Looking at the power you are getting, NA looks to be the way to go.  I doubt you'd get those power figures from a maggie without going inside the motor anyway.

I look forward to more updates. :v :spook

V.O.,Jo, Madvet,
Thanks for your comments, it's really good to hear from you again..;42  I'll be sure to add all the progress updates, and pics that I can squeeze out of the Lingenfelter people that will be working on my car...I'm supposed to be getting before and after dyno sheets when available, and progressive pics of the motor install.

Tomorrow morning, they will start hauling my LS2 motor out, and preparing the new LS7 block. They stock the CCW wheels normally, the tires will be ordered from Michelin, they also have the Z06 rear fenders in stock. They also have a state of the art Paint Shop. One of the last things to be done will be the Dynatech Supermaxx Ceramic coated headers, at a facility a few miles from their main building. More to come...:evil  Thanks again for your interest guy's...;42

Here's what my exhaust system tips will look like. The mesh in the middle is the cold air intake for the mufflers..;eek..J/K

Yes Jo, they have invited me down to their location, and will give me a tour of the entire facility. No problem watching them work on my car and taking some pics thru out the place.
They have been super hospitable to me, they will even dig thru their archives for C6 dyno graphs to compare my results with others for comparison sake. They said they would pick me up at the Fort Wayne Airport, which is very close to them, if I should choose to fly down rather than drive.  About a 20-25 minute flight from O'hare Airport.  I'll definitely go and take mucho pics, which I will post of course...:22

I didn't mention this in previous posts, it's relatively new for them...:luv

Further info on the above Lingenfelter 427 CID 550/560 package...

This will be the cam that will be used in the package. Designed by Lingenfelter, here are the specs:
GT11 Hydraulic Roller Camshaft
215/231 duration @ .050 .631/.644 with 1.7 ratio rocker arms 118.0 CL with dual valve springs.

Next to the Cam is the High Flow Cold Air Intake that will be used, which shows a 12 RWHP gain on "stock" engines, and even higher gains on "modified" engines. A very factory look.

The "Fast" 3 piece composite Intake Manifold is used, having a 90mm Throttle Body. Increases both volume and velocity of intake airflow. Used on all the larger displacement engines.
Next to the Intake Manifold is the Headers that will be used. Dynatech Supermaxx Ceramic coated stainless steel, long tube, 1 7/8", with high flow cats.

Also a new drop-in 160 degree thermostat.   And next to it, the C6 Heavy-Duty right side differential output shaft, with gear. And below, the Corsa Sport Exhaust system which will connect up behind the Headers. And next to them, the Cylinder Heads and the Heavy Duty Differential output shaft left side, and below, the great LS7 Aluminum Block.

Latest LPE update, 24-1-'07

Seems that there is a lengthy "check in" procedure on the car, which has been done...then they ran it on the dyno and established a RWHP & RWTQ "baseline" so we'll have that for comparison when they are all done. Most all required parts are in, still a few to arrive.  Z06 LS7 Aluminum Block is being prepared. Paint Shop should be preparing the Z06 Fenders.

Looks like all the preparations are being taken care of this week, then Monday, the engine comes out and the serious work begins. I'm expecting the baseline dyno graph, and a few pics of the engine coming out, which I will post as soon as I get them.

Just spoke to LPE minutes ago (Wed. a.m.) the engine is out of the car, working on LS7 block, Z06 rear fenders are being painted in their paint shop as we speak. Will have pics of car & engine removal, plus dyno numbers taken before the engine removal, by end of this week.  They seem to be getting in  high gear now...:evil

Update 07-02-2007

Hi Gang,
Well, I finally received the baseline dyno graph from the run that LPE did on my car before starting any work on it. They sent it as an "attachment" to an email, and the image is protected from being sent elswhere, so I will have to just give you the numbers from the graph.

LPE Baseline Dyno Jan 23rd 2007 Dyno run #2.  These are the "stock" numbers before any work has been done.

Stock "engine" 400 HP, Stock "engine" 400 TQ.

Dyno..337.7 RWHP, 349.7 RWTQ (All numbers corrected)....;42

That sounds like a great suggestion Cam, I just this minute sent you an email with the Dyno graph attached, it's in PDF form, I hope you can work your magic and get it posted on the forum without too much trouble.
As I said in the email, regarding what I should end up with after they finish with my car, after they install the 427 package, and then the additional mods I wanted, headers, etc, I should have about 520/530 to the wheels...big fat 345 wheels. they say I should have the car by the end of February. Can't wait...:spook

Your helmet will have a very small Heads-up Display, shown on the lower edge of the front opening, where the area ahead of you, and any alerts for you, can be shown on the Hud. As shown, the next turn ahead has oil right at the apex of the turn, but you now know about it in advance, with the live image, and the text message.

Great looking hood. They just look mean.

A comment for you though: the base of the windscreen is a high pressure area because of all the air that collects there from the transition between the relatively flat hood and the angled windscreen. Early C3 BBs used this to direct pressurised air to the air cleaner at speed. It will be unlikely that air will exit the engine bay from this area. It is likely to add even more air to the engine bay which is OK for cooling provided it has other areas to exit.

You bet jo, the "Maggie" SC and Lingenfelter magic make for a beast of a Corvette! I originally planned on just having them put a Maggie on my stock 2007 C6, but later decided to go with the 427 NA package and forged motor and upgraded trans, & diff.  A little further down the line, I'll probably put a Maggie on top of my forged 427, then I should have quite a car. Maybe then I won't have to worry too much about scattering parts down the straights....:ado

Here's a couple of short Video's of Maggied C6's...;eek

Bugattis, superchargers, high powered machines, throbbing V8's and top music.  I think I'm feeling a little frisky. ;)

It is, and at the risk of going off track I think you've gone the better way with the 427 - more power without the issues that go with forced induction like heat and packaging factors.

Not that I'd object to a supercharged 427... (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a335/Andrews_pics/Smilies/leaving-1.gif)

My friend with the maggied 99 C5 doesn't hold back from giving that some stick - and he says his 07 Z06 is almost too fast and doesn't need modding.  Not a direct comparison with an LS2 but I think the conclusions would be similar. ;42

YES! The 427 CID package uses a Z06 LS7 Block. The Heads are your LS2 Heads which are CNC ported and polished to match the LS7 Block. The LS7 Block is a small block.  The Maggie fits on just fine. Should put you above 700 flywheel HP....;eek....(Also may be done as a Twin Turbo)...;eek

:v:v:v

I've been wondering if that could be done for some time...

That would have to be my dream setup. :spook

As I'm sure you know, LPE does a twin turbo for the LS7 which they rate at 800hp.

I'd be happy with the maggy - I don't ask for much. (http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a335/Andrews_pics/Smilies/leaving-1.gif)

Here's one that LPE put together, that I'm sure you would have been satisfied with....a 2005 C6, which they gave their 427 Twin Turbo package.  Dyno'd at 1038.8 RWHP.

Update 17-02-07

The area where Lingenfelter is located, (Decatur, Indiana) has received 17'' of snow in the past week, many of the tech's,engineers, and sales people were unable to travel to work.
Schedule pushed back by about a week.  New motor all put together, Commemorative hood, and Z06 rear fenders have been prepared and painted. All ordered parts are in.  Now all they have to do is get it all together...:spook...With the new delay, they believe I'll be getting my beast during the 1st week of March.  Hope there are no other delays....they will send pics of the motor going in next week...:v

There's quite a bit of work happening on the sidelines yet, 69 DIRTY RAT, (3) additional gauges going in, changing to the Z06 brake set-up, some new "Lingenfelter 427" side and back chrome emblems, adding stainless steel screening behind all of the "openings" on the car, finishing the top side of the new hood opening, installing a shift lite, installing a pad under the carpeting that shields against heat and noise, installing a new oversize capacity radiator which contains a additional engine oil cooler, and a transmission oil cooler,  etc, etc...;eek

With all that snow on the roof, I'm not going inside till the snow is gone!...:ado  Maybe I could help it along with one of these, we were having a tailgate party in a parking lot, and I was cooking a Duck, you can see the Orange web-feet sticking out of the bottom of the flame...:mmm..........J/K

You're so right MADVET, they are the greatest, and this is with a lost week of work because there was so much snow, the employees couldn't get to work...I'm very happy with the progress...;42....actually, they have had my car since January 19th, which is about 42 days, including the lost week.  Of course, to me, it seems like my car has been gone for about a year!...:grr

Here's a great Tire Repair Kit that is sold by the Tire Rack, in the U.S. www.tirerack.com which I know that most of you are familiar with. It contains a 12 volt air compressor with an integral pressure gauge, liquid latex sealant, to quickly seal the puncture and get you on your way. Obviously this is for Corvette models that do not have a spare.  More info and a "how to Video" on the site.  Very cool...$79.00 us.

TRJ, I don't know how you are managing to sleep right now knowing you are likely going to be getting your baby delivered to you sometime next week. :spook

Having said that, I just noticed the goodyear slick on the back of the silver C6??? What's with that?

Thanks for sharing ;42 you are sharing what for many of us is a dream through this thread.

Hi V.O.
I try to keep myself busy (detailing the driveway, pruning my neighbors shrubbery with a pickaxe, tried to Zaino the roof) anything to keep me busy and to wear myself out, I still walk around like a Zombie...;eek

As you may suspect, I have a close, fun, relationship with my Aussie friends, (I suspect that some of my ancestors were from OZ) I'm most happy to share my project with you and the gang, that's what friends do...;42

The Silver C6 that you asked about I believe is owned by a friend, and member of DC and CF named Bill Burton. He has his car at LPE now, getting the 403 CID package. I believe he will also be getting his car next week. He also had the full "wide body" Z06 body kit installed on his C6. Maybe they install a set of slicks on your car to test out the "launch" of the new package. I'll try to find out, now I'm curious also...;eek

Lpe will use the balance of this week, buttoning-up my car. They will put about 50 miles on it, out on the road, with (2) engineers and a laptop, fine tuning all the perameters, then back to the Dyno for more of the same, and the final Dyno run, recording the final numbers for mine, and their records.

Then a final, complete detailing, and shipping my baby back home to me in an enclosed carrier. I'm roughly about 200 miles Northwest of them.  I'll keep up with all the pics, I've been promised another bunch in the next few days...:spook

I wanted to mention that I had a lot of fun talking to RubyZR1 (Wayne) and ozzievette (Ozzie) last night on Digital Corvettes, we were on a thread called RHD Z06's in of course, the Z06 section. We must have gone back and forth posting for at least a half an hour. What a couple of great guy's! Here's the thread, if you care to read it, I believe we get together on page 2...;49

http://www.digitalcorvettes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72971

My best regards,  TRJ

Hope you enjoy the above, guys, I'm fascinated with the way Lingenfelter Tech's do their work so professionally, that it all has a factory look when they are through. What professionals.  I may have more tomorrow. Should be about another week roughly, according to Lingenfelter, all the Dyno tuning and calibration to go, they will put on about 50 miles of driving, to break in the motor, differential, and bed the brakes....;42

Hi jo,

Since I don't have the car yet, and have not run the 1/4 with it yet, I really don't know the answer, other than saying that my car will have more RWHP & RWTQ than a stock Z06. And as to your other question, I already owned the Z51 C6 prior to deciding on the 427+ package. Also, I prefer having the A6 paddle-shifting 6 speed transmission, the removable top, and not as "harsh" a car in general....hope this answers your questions....;42

Gidday Ted (TRJ).......all the kudos to you for your C6 project.

Can't wait to see the new hood installed and the final engine dyno stats.
Those 345's on the rear really help to fill the guards, eh!

You will have lotsa folks scratching their heads wondering where the "Z06" badges went.;laugh

As previously stated, LPE sure do tiddy work.

Congrats & enjoy your ride.;42

Hi V.O.,  Sorry for the delay in answering your question. The owner of the Silver C6, with the Goodyear slicks in back, had his car at the CCW wheel Mfg. Co. getting measured up for a set of 19" front, and 20" rear new wheels, for his "Z06 wide body" panel kit. The wheels are custom made, and take some time to manufacture. Well, they messed up on making the first set, and not wanting to hold up the cars trip to LPE for the 403 CID installation, they put the set of slicks on just for the trip to Lingenfelters. Everything finally worked out well, and he's getting his car next week...;42

Thanks VO,
Tuning and calibration should start early this week, and with some luck, I'll have my car by Friday...they did have to install the new hood, and an Air/Fuel Ratio gauge to otherwise complete the package. Will post the new Dyno sheet as soon as I get it, and some pics of the finished beast...;42

I was a little concerned that the Michelin 345's we selected to put on the rear wheels might stick out a bit, (they are 13.6 inches wide)..:ado.. even with the Z06 fenders, since the Z06 uses 325's, but the wheels were made right, and here's the result...;eek

Thanks Michael,

My car is all done except for the calibration and tuning, which they should accomplish in the next few day's. They had a period of rain for a few days, and that prevented them from taking it out on the road, to do that part of the tuning process, After that, back on the Dyno for the final runs. I should have more pics in the next few days, before they put it in an enclosed transport, and ship it home to me. I can't wait, it's been two months away from home. Thanks again for the kind words....;42

Two months to do all that work is remarkable Ted, i still can't believe that they are already finished.
We need a few workshops like that in Australia.
Those 345's look like a perfect fit, i dare say that there will be quite a few Z06 owners opting to do the same after seeing yours.:v

Received more photos this morning from Kevin Jeffrey at Lingenfelter's, showing the installation of the new CES Hood, and the additional gauges, and shift light, installed in a pod on the pillar. One gauge shows the present Air/Fuel Ratio, and the other shows the Transmission Oil Temperature, and the Shift Light mounted on the side of the pod...;eek

Ha! You and me both, D.R. They are finishing up one Corvette ahead of mine this afternoon, (Thu. here) which is a 427 CID package like I'm getting, only his will have a M122 Maggie on top. The M122 is the latest, larger model of the Maggie, if you're not familiar with it. Mine will go on the Dyno tomorrow morning (Fri. here) and I should get the results by afternoon, depending on how many runs they make. They will also send photos of my car on the Dyno. I'll post it all as soon as I get it, whether they are able to get a video of the final run is a maybe...;42

Decided to go with a different Intake Manifold. The LS6 flows a lot more than the LS2, because of it's larger lobes, and larger throttle body.(90mm vs 85mm) Should pick up an additional 12-15 HP, according to Lingenfelter Engineers. They stopped using the FAST brand intake manifolds because too many of them were separating. (Three layer composite material)  They should install it tomorrow morning, and then on the Dyno in the afternoon...:v

Hi 69VETTE,

Emmision testing begins on cars here after they become (4) years old. So, no concern till then. Having headers, and aftermarket exhaust systems poses no problems, as long as you have quality catalytic convertors. Even the free flowing cats like I have, will pass emissions testing, if the cats are not too old. Glad you like the pics. Should get some today with the car on the Dyno, and the Dyno final number results...I'll post them as I get them...;42

Gday TJR Nothing to do with your car (which would be a dream to have in my garage), but I noticed in your last picture what apears to be a Holden monaro (AU) in the background which would be a pontiac GTO (USA) over there,Am I correct ? and do you know what they might be doing to it.

G'day vette2bshaw,
The photos you refer to were taken by the sales rep. that is handling my build package. When I talk with him tomorrow, I'll ask him what is going on with the car. You will be surprised to know, (as I was) to find out that as of yesterday, they had 60 cars there for various modifications. People make their appointments months in advance to have their cars worked on by the Lingenfelter tech's. This is their busiest time of the year since everyone wants their car for our Spring and Summer.

They have a seperate large building that they keep all the cars in, so none of them have to be out in the weather while they wait their turn....;42

Well, I got a bit of a set-back today, It was supposed to be my car's turn on the Dyno today, but no go! This morning a Z06 broke down while on the Dyno, and the engineers are trying to get the car sorted out. I probably won't get on till Monday (here) now.  One bit of good news, the person that does the Video work for Lingenfelter's agreed to take a Video of my car on the Dyno, I'll post that and the Dyno sheet as soon as I get them...here's a couple of pics I received from my sales rep. of the new coil-covers he designed for my car. He does a great job...;42

You bet Cam, specially since I know that the car is all done except for the Dyno tuning. They estimate now that my car should be on the Dyno either Mon. or Tue. and ship the car back to me by Wed. morning.  I don't feel too bad though, I've kept myself busy...I've detailed the garage twice, put Zaino on my racing jack, even gave the neighbors dog a haircut...hope they don't notice...;53

Hi Gang,

I'ts  Fri. evening here, I received an email from Lingenfelters a few hours ago, saying that my car is on the Dyno now! It will be tuned and calibrated tonight and tomorrow morning. A video will be taken of a run tomorrow morning, and I am supposed to receive a phone call with the results of the final run before noon tomorrow! WooHoo! see you then...;35

I do have a good friend in Chicago who is suffering because he can't decide which colour C6 to order.

I'm sure TRJ's car will make him forget for a bit. ;41

Hi gang,
Well, my car is finally done...;35
They tell me I will receive some photos of my completed car, and one or two videos, hopefully one on the dyno, and another of a "drive by, and also, at idle.  They will also send me the final dyno run of my car.  There will be (2) sheets, one with my final rear wheel #'s, and the other showing a comparison of my stock baseline #'s, compared to the new final #'s.  I'll post that some time tomorrow, hopefully also the videos.  In the meantime, they sent me (11) pics of the process that the new 427 motor goes thru, during the build in the machine shop, to their specifications.  It was a new LS7 block to begin with...;42

Here they are:

Hey Madvet,

Received the car today around noon, took it for a run for about 2 hours despite the light snow showers we are getting.  It's a total beast, takes off like a rocket, and over 3000 rpm, you better be hanging on...what a car!...;42

Despite the snowy, cold, windy weather, (Chicago Spring) Lingenfelter delivered my car this morning. It's been some weeks now since I've seen her, so it was a very welcome sight. Sorry to say that Lingenfelter's was unable to make any kind of Video due to just being too busy, I'll have to do a few myself. Here's some arrival pics...;35

Thanks V.O. the car is a blast, yesterday it was pretty miserable with the high winds and snow showers, and below freezing temps, but today it's supposed to warm up and be reasonable, so I'll take her out and play a little. Sorry about the "no video from LPE" they were so swamped, that one day last week there were 18 cars lined up, waiting for their turn on the dyno.  Every person in the organization was just busy up to their eyebrows. They are a great bunch, and I know that they would have done the video if it were at all possible. I've been looking at some Video-Cams and will probable make a choice within the coming week, so I'll make a few myself. Have a great Easter Celebration with the gang!

Best regards...;42

I pulled the trigger on what I think is a good Cam-Corder early this week. It's High Definition, uses dual sided DVD's to record on, so with each DVD you have 1 hour of Video time. It has a stabilizing feature, and uses a USB cable to load the Video into your computer. It has a threaded female thingie (sounds erotic) on the bottom for a tri-pod, or to attach to a harness bar, (which I will do) and is made by Sony. Here's a pic of it...:ado

Hi jo,
I'll be glad to share with you what I found out in my search for a Camcorder. The one I chose is the Sony HDR-UX5. It is High Definition, it uses dual sided DVD's as a recording media.
There are actually 4 different types of recording media for these Camcorders. 1) DVD, (as I have) gives you 30 minutes recording time on each side of the DVD. The DVD's are very inexpensive, and may be erased and reused, also they may be loaded into your computer by USB cable, or just puting the DVD in the DVD drawer of your computer. 2) Tape, which I chose not to consider. 3) An internal Hard-Drive, which will give you 4 hours of recording time, and uses USB to load to your computer. Very nice, but adds approx. $500.00us to the price. 4) Something brand new only from Panasonic so far, using the very small, approx. one inch square media cards which will give you 4 hours of recording time. These are the same cards as you would use in a Digital Camera, but they are 4 GB. This will cost you about $300.00us over the DVD type. All of these are High Definition, which gives really stunning results, but they are a bit expensive.
1) Sony Hi-Def with tape:  $800.00us
2) Sony Hi-Def with DVD:   $950.00us
3) Sony Hi-Def with Internal Hard Drive:  $1495.00us
4) Panasonic Hi-Def with Media Card:  $1295.00us
All of the above use USB for transfering Video to your Computer, which is a joy, as I'm sure you know. They all have stabilization technology which helps, however, the Panasonic above goes one step further, and gives you "Optical" stabilization, which is the best available. Sony continues to be the dominating "class act" in Camcorders, according to just about all professional reviewers. Of course if you don't need the Hi-Def, you have many choices in the $450.00us to $600.00us range. The one I bought comes with: 1) AC Adapter 2) Power cord 3) Component Video cable
4) A/V Connecting cable 5) USB cable 6) Wireless remote 7) Rechargeable battery pack 8) CD-ROM software 9) Operating Manual. I didn't mean to turn this post into a manuscript, but wanted to give you the info I received from some very knowledeable camera people. The DVD type fits my needs perfectly, shoot 30 minutes of Video, open the hatch, turn the DVD over, shoot another 30 minutes of Video, if I need more, reach in my pocket for another dual sided DVD. Loads into the computer via USB cable in seconds. Hope this helps you some jo.  Best regards...;42

P.S. One feature I forgot to mention, most of these can take still photos also. The one I bought will take still images at 4 Mega Pixels.

The car is looking sweet and I love the guages on the interior...

Is that a V1 you have on the windscreen?

Have you had a chance to take the car out a little?

Hi V.O.

Yes!! Spring has finally sprung, the temps are still in the 50's F. But no rain or snow, and no more 40 MPH winds. I have been out on the few days that were reasonable, and yesterday I took a run up to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, about 75 miles North of my location. Wasn't able to really open it up too much due to Sunday traffic, but did get up to 150 mph on two runs, and it was just effortless.

The interior gauges are nice, the top one gives you the current Air/Fuel Ratio. It has been running at 14.5:1 to 14.8:1, dead nuts stoichiometric being 14.7:1 (neither lean nor rich) so I'm happy with that. The bottom gauge gives the transmission fluid temp. which has been running at approx. 160 degrees F. which shows me that the trans. fluid cooler is doing it's job.

Yes, that is the Valentine 1 Radar Detector, they are the best IMO, I wouldn't be without one.

Best regards,
TRJ

Hi Cam,

Hi 69VETTE,

Thanks much for your kind words!  In regards to the Valentine 1 Radar Detector, the answer is yes, it recieves both Radar and Laser. It has seperate antenna's for both, in front and in back. So you get protection from both Radar and Laser from your front, and also from your back.  Go to their website, it has a wealth of information. Use the buttons at the top of the home page to navigate around.  The following link will give you a copy of the Operating Manual in PDF format, for the detector.

Here's what the unit looks like:

I hope this will answer your questions...if not, please let me know...;42

Best regards.

For what its worth I have a Passport X50 8500 which is as I understand the competitor to the V1.

As good as the X50 is, after driving a friends car in the USA with a V1 I found the directional arrows of the V1 to be really helpful.  While some may say they are a gimmick it does help knowing what direction to look in for the radar or laser.

If I bought another I'd probably go with the V1.

A few years ago, I bought a Passport 8500, I thought it did a good job. Then I bought the Passport Solo, and I thought it did a good job, and I liked the idea of "no cord." But it ate up battery's like crazy. Then I bought a Valentine 1, because they were running a 30 day free trial. I attached all three to my windshield, had a triple recepticle in the cigar lighter opening, and plugged them all in at the same time.  I drove  around like that all afternoon, comparing one against the other, and the Valentine 1 was so superior in comparison to the other two detectors that I never went back. The big difference was in the range that the Val.1 could pick up the radar, it would pick up the Police Radar significantly sooner than the others, and I could not be without the arrows now.
Instead of just saying Beep beep, it gives a tone, shows how strong the signal is, and what direction the Radar unit is from your position. It will also point out if there are 2 or 3 units ahead of you, and advise you when you pass them. Pretty hard to beat, IMO...;42

69VETTE,
According to the description, it's the latest model. The price they are asking is full retail in the U.S.  The Valentine1 is sold at full retail, you don't see them discounted anywhere.  It sounds correct to me, as long as the unit is as advertised. He normally gives you a warranty with purchase, but I don't know if that would apply from Ebay...:mmm

69VETTE,

I just checked the price on the latest Val.1 and it is $399.00us. For $39.00 more you should get the "remote" unit along with the regular full size unit. I would check if the remote is included in the Ebay price. Then their price would be accurate. You normally get a 1 year warrantee also.
A very important point if you buy the Val.1 is that you MUST get the EURO model so that it receives "narrow band" radar.
The U.S. model is set up to receive "wide band" radar. Narrow band is used by the Police in Oz....:v

This is the remote unit accessory, and the full size unit.

Hi Cam,

As you know by now, as I explained in yesterdays email, my car is back at Lingenfelter's to take care of a few small, but time consuming PITA problems.  Nothing major, mostly their application of the Header-Exhaust combination that I ordered, which is being taken care of now. I'll keep in touch as the fix progresses...;42

I wish that the "enjoying" part were true jo, but that's not the case. My car had to be returned to Lingenfelter's to correct a Header-Exhaust system foul-up that they inadvertantly created. There were fitment problems between the two systems, and they are correcting the situation now by replacing the Header system with the correct brand that I ordered in the first place, that will be a correct match with the Corsa exhaust system that I have.  As I said to Cam, nothing serious, but a little labor intensive, and on the PITA level.  Should have my car back approx. on the 18th of this month...;42

Hey Cam, and gang,

The new Kooks Headers are at the Jet-Hot coating facility in the state of Mississippi.  The "Sterling" coating process will be complete in (5) days.  The Headers will then be sent to Lingenfelter's for installation on my car.  They will have to re-tune, and then dyno again for the final numbers, the car should pick up a few horses over and above the last dyno.  I'll post the new sheet when they send it to me.

Hey Cam,
We are getting very close, yesterday they finished puting the new Kooks Headers on, and the correct center section of the Corsa exhaust system. It took (4) days to get the Headers from the dealer to the Jet-Hot coating facility, (3) days to get the coating done, and overnight delivery to Lingenfelters for the installation.  The new Performance Gauge, and the new 45 degree angled plug wires were installed today, also had the break-in oil changed out.  The car was test driven and it didn't throw any codes.  It's #3 now, for the Dyno and tuning, which should happen tomorrow or Saturday. The transport company is all set to bring the beast back to me.  It should be on it's way back to me by Tuesday or Wednesday, and that's only a 4 to 5 hour drive...;35  More soon...;42

This is kind of weird, but only today I learned that one of the LPE tech's made a 50 second video of my car, even before I received it the first time, with a shop camera that had a  video feature, to mainly record the sound of the header-exhaust combo.  It was done at night..;eek and the quality leaves a lot to be desired, but they were only interested in the sound quality.  I apologize for the lack of sharpness, and poor quality, but I thought you might like to "hear" his work. Turn your volume up.

I further found out that the video was made by the tech at the Header and Exhaust shop, rather then at the Lingenfelter location.
Here's a photo of their crack shop camera-man, during his off-time...;ay
