Title: C3 76 Vette Streering Wheel Conversion
Post by: 76vette on October 24, 2010, 08:15:49 PM
FYI,

76 owners,

As owners are aware GM had a brain snap when it came to the steering wheel used on this years cars and put on a Vega wheel that was not the best choice.
The option is to use a later steering column and wheel, which is what I did on mine. Now there is an adapter kit available that is what we got for my Sons 76 so he could put on a better steering wheel.
Total cost was $380.00 au for the kit and steering wheel from Ecklers to home.
:banner: That was the easy part putting it in took 5 hours and we needed to modify various parts including tapping the unthreaded holes in the boss that holds in the columns extension spring which is what power is sent up.
Then pulling apart the horn trigger mechanism to add a thicker earth insulator along with adding about 3 mm spacers on each of the 3  holding screws so when the new supplied horn cap is added the horn is not jammed on.
If you intend to get this kit make sure your existing horn works as it should because you need some of the existing parts!
PS
There are no instructions either.
