Title: Any Vacuum Experts out there!
Post by: 69 DIRTY RAT on July 29, 2005, 10:44:42 AM
I'm Electrifying my Head Lights and Wiper Door - so I dont need vacuum hoses to them! The Brake vacuum comes off the manifold! The question is....Do I need the vacuum hoses behind the dash for anything then? I think the vacuum controls the wiper on/off switch below the steering wheel  (68-72) and wiper door lift push/pull control below the steering wheel. Does the vacuum control the on/off 2 speed wipers switch on the middle top console? does it control the heater switch in any way?
Reason being is I want to take out the Vacuum Reservoir if its not going to be used?

Hmmmm.  I think you're going to need it.  On the '77 I think it only activated the headlights, but my heater control didn't work so I don't know if you need it for that either.

Who has a '69 (that's actually running! ;-- ) that we can test this out on?

I've been on the DC site, they say I still need it! because of the wiper override under the dash and the power servo controling the heater a/c etc. But I'll probably have to block off the headlight / wiper door overrides?

Exactly.

Vacuum operates:-

Cruse control and hence cancel switch on brake pedal [if fitted]
Heater A/C vent controls and if fitted heater hot water valve
Head lights and wiper[as you know]
Emission control actuators, not on you beast I would imagine
Dissy, but this is straight from carby, if fitted.

And most importantly the "high speed-low frequency-warp modulator";41

I think only the power servo thing is the only thing I need the vacuum for? I'll get rid of the rest as I go! I'll keep the vacuum reservoir just incase I need something!

What do you mean by the "power servo thing" Andy?

There is a sort of junction box type thingy somewhere behind the middle console apparently????? that controls ac,heater etc? That was the info I got from  DC!

Its round and is actually part of the slide controls, well on my 77.  As you slide the controls from left to right, ports are opend and closed so as to direct vacuum to the different flap actuators on the heater A/C system.  Do you have the same "slide from left to right controls for A/C and Heat "?  I can show you how it works as I revamped mine.

how do you plan on doing the electric wiper door? That I'd love to know (you'd more likely agree that the vacuum wiper door on the '69 is horrible for actually working).

Andy...you should have told me you were planning to get one of Chris' kits. I met him last year while I was over in Florida picking up my 64.;ay
Oh well.
I was extremely flattered when he mentioned my 77's rear end work which he'd seen posted somewhere and cursed me for doing what I did with the trailing arms, because he now wants to tear his out again and do the same.;eek
