Hoax Vette For Sale. Be Warned
« on: May 20, 2013, 07:59:31 AM »
Got this from a friend overnight.  Thought we should give you all a heads up.  They write......

"Here is this car again in a scam."

http://www.carsguide.com.au/cars-for-sale/P12864719/used-1963-CHEVROLET-CORVETTE-STINGRAY--Manual-Leaded-Coupe-in-VIC-Wimmera/Mallee.html

"This ad is a hoax. I emailed them about a month ago when it was advertised on Just cars. They don’t have the car available for inspection and want you to send them the money through Google Checkout (it is a bogus account)and then they supposedly deliver the car to you and you have 5 days to inspect and return the car at their expense. They tell you that you can cancel the transaction on Google checkout before the 5 days is up but by then your money is long gone. The car was in Darwin and it was at a shipping company because the owner supposedly had to hurry to take up a position in England for work and has priced the car at basically 20% of its worth of a quick sale. Be warned!!"

There's a feature on the site to report the ad, usually they respond and remove the ad.

I just learned a great tip:

If you are ever after something on ebay and something is nagging you like this, copy the picture to your computer.

Go to Google Images and click the camera in the search box. Upload the picture to Google and then google looks for identical pictures, you can see where the scammer has loaded the image from.

Interesting. Going by their feedback record the seller aggro7_123  has what appears to be a genuine history of purchases, but has only one recorded sale transaction.

I see the photos that he/she is using, mileage and description details seem to be from a carsales.com ad from back in January.

Are you going to challenge him/her over this?
It's C3 chromie for me, see? Si!

The same email address that is used in this add has appeared in a couple of other plagiarised stile adds over the last year or so
Ebays system should be pricking these scams up when they are lodged

I would never buy a car through eBay myself, but who would do that without first inspecting the vehicle and checking its VIN vs rego, etc?

It's C3 chromie for me, see? Si!

Nothing wrong with buying a car on ebay, its just another advertising company.  You can make a fraud add anywere

Would you buy a car via eBay without first inspecting it?

I don't buy cars that I can't test drive and check over myself. But each to his own.

BTW: I note that aggro7_123 has recently sold a Nissan Patrol. (Item #171039349665)

I never said i would buy a car without inspecting it or  have someone do it for me.. I said there is nothing wrong with buying a car on ebay. . I have bought a few cars on ebay, without a problem.
I just said that ebay is like any other form of car advertising and, you can make a fraud add anywere. you could even make one here. (please dont take offence Camo)
As far as aggro7, i dont care what he has sold, someone has hacked his account and is using my old add to try to scam people

True, Craigslist has many. Another problem is if you put an ad up, you then get scammers trying to scam you there as well.  A common trick is they tell you they've put an amount in your Paypal account, send you an official looking receipt. They'll either overpay the deposit or change their mind then ask you to pay them back via Western Union.  Not sure on how it works but either there is no money in your Paypal account or Paypal withdraws it.
