Hi Guys,

Ross here from South Australia.
For those that might be interested, my C2/C5Z06 project car Prodigy, will be shown again at Motorex this year.

Regret we weren't able to bring her to your convention this year, but she was undergoing rework at the time.

I believe the approach with Prodigy's build is unique. It's not your typical restomod, proclassic etc.
In essence, Prodigy is a rebodied 50th anniversary 2003 C5Z06 with a heavily modifed C2 original old vette body mounted ontop of the C5 chassis/drivetrain.

I was not at all interested about keeping the body in stock form.
It was my dream to redesign the body to make it more contemporary, and of course many mods were needed to fit the unaltered C5 undercarriage.
My team and I spent a total of 7,500 hours to build this car.

curious how you managed to import a damaged C5 without compliance?

I guess as a wreck for parts, so then it can never be registered

Well, it's not that hard c5vette.

Whilst under RAWS you can't import a damaged vehicle, there's nothing stopping you from bringing in a rolling chassis as parts.
This is why I had the vehicle stripped in the States before importing.
National Department of Transport had no interest in this, and it was imported with no import duty ( applicable on US made cars back then ), just GST.

Prodigy was built under ICV status here, under the guidance of an engineer.
Not much point of doing all this if you can't drive the darn thing.
It will be registered here later this year.

my understanding is that vin will never be able to be registered in Australia, as it is as you say a spare parts vehicle, in fact the chassis should be destroyed.

So not real sure how it will ever be able to be registered anywhere in Australia as it would need to be an australian delivered vehicle with an Australian Compliance Plate Fitted.

I understand a motor engineer could certify the vehicle, however he can't certify a vehicle that is newer than 15 years old, that falls under Raws.

Now if you had the original 1960s vehicle registered, then modified it, different story.

Thats what Dotar say anyway as i was looking at a similair vehicle done by west coast customs.

Correct, it will never be registered with the original vin of the imported donor car.

Under ICV status, Transport SA here, assign the project a vin number, and it must comply with current emission requirements at date of ICV.
It is the same system one can build a cobra replica and the likes.
A "Statement of Requirements" is issued, and the build needs to be inspected, and signed off by an accredited engineer.

This is certainly the case here, but it may well be different in NSW.

I will most certainly have Prodigy LEGALLY registered by the end of this year. I wouldn't have wasted 7 years of  my life, 7500 hours, and a bucketful of money if I couldn't.

It may also mean Prodigy MAY not be registerable in other States, this I haven't explored, but frankly, it is of little importance to me right now. I didn't build it to sell.

In my travels to the Eastern States, I've seen many Vettes that could never be legally registered here. LHD classic cars here need to be 'stock as a rock' or they will never be registered. Virtually, any mods will deem the car unregisterable, unless it is converted to RHD, go figure!!!

Would be real helpful if we had a National system, but that might go against me with Prodigy, so I'll just run with what we got.
