A few photos of mount  to fit Tremec 6 Speed magnum in to early C3



end view of plate the welds to chassis



chassis mount on cross member
Mount weld in original  position  as original  cross member







Trans mount  is positioned 25 mm forward and 20mm lower that the origin mount on the cross member





It a pears that a transmission guard will be needed as the transmission will be lower  that the  bottom of the cross member .

Gear  box as it arrived


Trany with Bell housing
I have the box

First problem is the speedo drive points the cable straight at the exhaust.

I am not in the process of shorting the drive out of the box,
  to allow the use of a 90 deg  drive .
With the cable drive as supplied the 90 Deg cable drive will not fit
It interferes with the mounting  pad of the transmission.

Doesn't the new 6 speed box have the alternative to run electrical speedO as well as the traditional mechanical?

Yes jethro it has both
I want to run the mechanical drive to keep it simple
I will post photos tomorrow of the modified drive to move the 90 deg cable drive up closer to the box

Speedo drive  problems solved


Original speedo drive as supplied


To get this to fit I have to Cut 16mm of the end of the mounting pad.
TO use a cable straight on the speedo drive would run the cable straight at the exhaust

I modified the drive as  shown to get more clearance


Speedo drive 15mm shortened  to move angle drive up closer to gear box for  clearance to exhaust

Trail fit magnum to 76 auto body
 


Trans in  position
I had to cut the tunnel to get the box up to the correct center line
the section removed  is the area  where the original auto shifter  was mounted .
this section  protrudes down towards the gear box about 32mm.
the hole will serve as the shifter position.



 in the photo above  you can see the trans mount  the bottom of the mount is 10mm below  a lone taken across the bottom of the chassis.




this photo show  gear box  sitting at center line of original box  
there is just adequate clearance.
note the top of the shifter area is at an angle  that is standard  in the design of the gear box its about 17 degs to the left side.
 




this is a 76 auto body  I would think there will be less room in a 70 model manual body I will know in a few months if that is true.

the photos  could be better but that is how it is  when you take them with a phone in the middle of the night

I am finding time to work on this again

modifying the transmission mount
 the tremec  magnum  rear mount is 3.1"  to the  center line of the  out put shaft
I have machined  this to  2.785"
the Mounting  pad  is  now 5/8"  think at the  mounting  bolt hole
I  removed 0.225" ( 5.715 mm )






the mounting pad on  box comes set up for chev and ford
I machine the  the excess off

I bored the threaded section out to 0.625" Dia
then parted it off.

Then machined the OD of remainder to accept the threaded part with 0.001 clearance  and leaving a shoulder  of 0.236" (6mm)

I silvered solders the two together
using no. 2 flux and 55% silver solder.


I can do you a drawing if you are not sure of what I have described
