Jethro, check those valve guides on those Dart heads.  I had a brand new set, cast iron, fitted to Priscilla when we did the motor and they all wore out real quick and I ended up burning oil.  Found out that there was, back then, a common problem with Dart valve guides, too soft a material used.  Ended up putting in K liners and not a problem since.

Hmmm but how long ago was that camo? same could be said bout those probe pistons I got told they had issues 3 years back with Q.C. and the variance was anywhere between +_ .001 - +_ 004 of a inch...?

Jethro
If you got bare heads
I would change out the guides
For a good quality Australian guides.
Cheap insurance.
We  import heads for cat out of the US it's standard practice for us we remove the guides and replace them.

Just treat the heads as cores
You will get a better result long term

I agree.  Some of the stuff out of the US has crap guides, well they were back then.  To answer your question Jethro, about 6 years ago we did Priscilla, 2006.

Jethro I would not expect anything less for a reputable engine builder.
Oven if it only came down to knowing the fit of the guide in the head
There is to much riding on the result to just accept that some one else in another country has done it correctly

The people putting these thngs together  will not be the one you go back to if it all goes wrong

I know head rebuilders who would replace the guides even if you  would dont ask them to

As in the people you are using
Their already doing it for your benefit and their piece of mind.

Finally coming around the corner and I can see the back straight away:luv::luv:
All the polishing & balancing has been done now....
Pistons with gudgeon & rings is 58.8 grams each lighter than old.
Total weight of new rod is 39 grams lighter.
Reciprocating part of new rod is 6.5 grams lighter & rotating part of new rod is 32.2 grams lighter than old one. Not bad for larger diameter & stronger pistons. & stronger rods. Also today had piston fitted to rods. Next week pre assemble work out deck hight, decked  and accurate calculation of cam, lifters, spring retainers & lock that will be ordered from Crow Cams
