It could have been much worse, but let’s hope a 16-year-old’s joyride in his mom’s 1996 Corvette over the weekend was worth the heap of trouble he’s in now.
Seems the teenager took the sports car without his mom’s approval and wound up totaling the vehicle and ending up at the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
“(The Corvette) was her pride and joy,” Andrews, Indiana Town Marshal Van Juillerat told WANE TV. “When I spoke with the mother, she calmed down a little bit. And they understand they’re fortunate that they still have a son to deal with.”
Apparently, the boy secretly took the car early Sunday morning and crashed into a utility pole on Huntington County Road 200 North.
Juillerat said the teen was apparently following behind a friend in another car and tried to pass him but then lost control when he swerved to miss another car.
Oh, and did we mention that the boy didn’t have a driver’s license?
He’s been charged with reckless driving and driving without a license. No doubt now he won’t be getting that license for a while, and can you imagine his insurance rates?
